Initials question: are fn and ln initials MM okay?

  • Yes.
  • No.
  • Only if you're giving birth to a rapper or piece of candy ;)

I think its fine, I dont know if I would do a middle name that starts with an N, but other than that its absolutely fine.

LOL! The pp made me smile. :)

Trust me, my last name begins with M and I've been all through the "M&M" thing when naming both our daughters. We'd considered an M name for our first daughter, which my husband's family promptly ridiculed because it was too "M"ey (we ended up going with our other choice anyway, for unrelated reasons). Then, wouldn't you know, when we were naming our 2nd they suggested the very same name, saying "well what about this? this is a great name!" rofl

My point is, as long as it doesn't bother you or the name isn't a mouthful of Ms that creates a tongue-twister (not knowing the name it's hard to say for sure), I wouldn't worry about just the initials.

My surname begins with an 'M' too and if my daughter had been a boy, she'd have been Miles Xavier M.. giving him initials that marked him as 1999 in years! I thought that was cool, though and decided to keep the combo on the list in case I ever have another boy!

DH is an MAM and I'm an EMM now. Kids will most likely also have the double M somewhere in their names.

My first thought was in agreement with the first response, that MM is fine but MNM might be too much. It then occurred to me that it might be best to avoid middle names beginning with O, U, and maybe A too, especially for a boy. I'd probably just stay away from all vowels. Having grown up with initials that suggested comparisons with a certain type of car to rude pre-adolescent boys, I tend to be a little cautious about initials. On the other hand, I knew sisters named Sarah and Britta whose wealthy grandparents always kept Sara Soda (not sure of spelling, haven't seen it in years) and water in a Britta filter stocked in their guest bedrooms, and it was something special to the girls. I think MM is perfectly acceptable... just be prepared for your child to expect a regular supply of the candy. My daughter was born on Valentine's Day and it took me years to convince her that this fact did not obligate me to immediately buy her anything and everything decorated with a heart!

I dont see a problem with it. My rule is that it can't spell something bad/embarrassing which was of high interest because I gave both my girls 2 mns(family significance), Jaiden Elisabeth Mary (J.E.M.S) and Everleigh Rose Alexandra (E.R.A.S) so I paid close attention to that.

I think it's fine. In my family we had:

Martha Maureen Meyer (my mom)

Aunts:
Maria Meyer
Marilyn Meyer
Mary Anne Meyer

Cousin:
Malea Meyer

My mom said people used to call her M&M sometimes but it really wasn't a big deal.. in fact I think it's cute!
