Is it a boy or a girl name?

I am pregnant with twins. I have no idea what sex they are yet, I am only four months along. I really like the name Eden for a boy... Is it more of a girls name? I also like the name Madison for a boy, and in my baby names book it says it is a boys name. On the baby name finder at ivillage, it says it is a girls name. Is Madison a boys name or a girls or BOTH? I know Madison is a bit over done and really popular, but I think for twins it would be cute to have them named Eden and Madison for boys. My first son's name is Emery.

PLEASE don't name boys Eden and Madison!!! Eden is 100% girl to me and Madison has so totally gone to the girls, it's 100% girl at this point too.

I LOVE Eden for a girl. Madison is completely overdone for me.

Both are girls' names....if you have boys, they will be horrified to be named Eden and Madison.

Good luck!

I have to agree with the previous posters. Both Edan and Madison are girls names to me too.

Why not Evan, Ethan, Ellis,Elliot, Ewan, Elias,or Easton

or Mattias, Mitcham, Mitchell, Malcolm, Miles, Mathis, Matteo or Milo

Good Luck with your names

With all the girls being given boys names its nice to see someone who wants to give her son a girl's name (Eden). I say the boys should take back Madison! Stage a coup d'etat! Get back what was rightfully theirs. Everyone should name their sons Madison, Mackenzie, Jordan, Morgan, Taylor, Avery, Bailey, Mallory, Hillary, Lindsey and all the rest of the boys names that the girls stole! In fact, the boys should steal some girls names to get even! That way in 20 years all the little girls will be Hunters, Morgans and Ryans and all the little boys will be Amelias, Lilys and Julias. Sounds good to me.

NO NO NO NO. Please don't listen to the previous message from simonenicole. I think that was just very poor advice. Don't get me wrong they are your babies and they will be beautiful no matter what, BUT they will not want to be the guinea pigs for "taking back" boy names from girls. If the babies are girls then you are all set with the names, Eden and Madison are really pretty. On the other hand if you have boys or a boy, I think it is a good idea to keep looking. Best of luck!

I really think Eden is most appropriate for a girl. It's feminine sounding to me.

As for Madison, I think that one could go either way. Lots of girls are named Maddison but I think that one sounds masculine, especially if you're spelling it w/ one "d".

I think both Eden and Madison sound more like girls. How about Ayden and Ashton?

Maybe I'm the only one, but I think that Eden and Madison are both girls' names.

Please don't use those for boys. Eden sounds to me as though only a very girly girl would be able to carry that name. And although Madison may have originally been a boy's name, I would feel so sorry for a little boy in this day and age having to be the one male Madison in an elementary school filled with little girl Madisons.

Emery is a good boy's name. If these are boys, too, find them some more masculine names.

Sorry to be so negative. Good luck!

I am also struggling with a "could be either gender" name. My husband and I have picked Quinlan for a girl and I have received much backlash from that. However, Eden is most definately a girls name and to be quite honest, I just don't like Madison, never did. Even if you have a little girl, I still wouldn't name her Eden because alot of people associate it with the Garden of Eden which is thought of as sleezy.

Sorry - best of luck with your babies.
