Is it a boy or a girl name?

I am pregnant with twins. I have no idea what sex they are yet, I am only four months along. I really like the name Eden for a boy... Is it more of a girls name? I also like the name Madison for a boy, and in my baby names book it says it is a boys name. On the baby name finder at ivillage, it says it is a girls name. Is Madison a boys name or a girls or BOTH? I know Madison is a bit over done and really popular, but I think for twins it would be cute to have them named Eden and Madison for boys. My first son's name is Emery.

I actually like the name Eden for a boy, yet I think twist it a little and make it Aiden (aid-in). That sounds a little more masculine. As for Madison, I don't really like it for a girl or a boy, it sounds too old fashion, but thats just me.

I think Emery is really nice for a boy.

Eden & Madison are totally girl names though. It would be so cruel to name your son Madison along with the 5 other little GIRLS in his class named this. That name is soooo popular. Eden is very nice for a girl. It wouldn't be as bad as Madison, but it's still nmsaa.

I have twin girls, Alyssa & Allison. It was so tough coming up with names. It took me until about 2 weeks before they came. I say keep looking and you will find nice, masculine names if they turn out to be boys. If they turn out to be 2 girls, then it looks like you have the names picked out already.

I know Madison is listed as a boy's name but how many boy Madisons do you know along the the hundred's of girl Madisons? We know an 8 year old boy Madison in our town. He runs into issues all the time. He was placed on a girl's softball team instead of a boy's baseball team. (He is now on my son's team.) His mom named him after a family member, last name, and now regrets it. She wishes she had used Madison as a middle name. Poor kid is ALWAYS being teased. Luckily he is a tough kid and a great ball player but what if he wasn't? Years of therapy on the couch!

Eden is an all girl name, no one would ever think it was a boy. Madison used to be a boy's name, but it is hugely popular as a girl's name now. Sort of like Ashley used to be a man's name but it's all girl now! I guess you'd have to consider how your son would feel if there was a girl (or two!) in his class that had the same first name as him. There's two Madisons in my playgroup, both girls!!!

The only Eden I know is male so I associate the name w/ boys. I only know female Madison's (about 4 of them, all under 5). Good Luck!

No, I don't consider either name to be boys names. I think your boys will be teased a lot. I hope you have girls, then you can use the names. Good luck,

Madison ... imo DEFINETLY a girl name. My daughters name is Madison Brooke. I have a nephew named Reilly {Riley} and im so worried about him being the wierd boy with a girls name! Eden i so like for a boys name, and imo it is a boys name not a girls. Good Luck!

Both names are definitely girl names.

In 2003, Eden was the 340th most popular name for U.S. born baby girls; it doesn't make the charts for boys. (I do like a previous poster's suggestion to consider Aidan instead!)

In 2003, Madison was the 3rd most popular name for U.S. born baby girls; it's been in the top 10 in popularity for girls' names since 1997 (and it's been top 100 since 1993). Surprisingly, Madison does make the popularity list for boys' names, coming in at #893 in 2003... talk about a lot of boys who will be angry at having Madison for a name in a class full of girls named Madison.
