Jack Daniel?

My husband and I have chosen a name for our boy who is expected in early July.
His first name will be Jack.
The only middle name that we like and that sounds good to us is Daniel.
Is it cruel to name him this? We thought...no
First, we would call him by his first name, not first and middle all the time. Second, kids (young kids) won't tease because they won't know what it is or means.

kids always ask 'what's your middle name'? so yes, they would know!
i wouldnt name him Jack Daniel, would you like Jacob Daniel better? or Jackson? Joaquin?
or maybe Jack Davidson.

with that said, this is my thoughts. afterall, there are Margarita's, Tequila's, Sherry's, Brandy's, on and on.

It is kinda funny to me to hear this, b/c my mom keeps suggesting that exact name for our son to be. But she is totally joking. Both names are great but I do think that the association with the drink is kind of in poor taste. It is unfortunate though b/c they are both nice names just not together in that order. Best of luck!

What about Daniel Jack and call him Jack? Or John Daniel and call him Jack? It's very difficult not to associate Jack Daniel with the whisky, and might seem like a joke to many people. I do really like both names, just not in that order.

True enough, young kids may not tease. But he's gonna' grow up, and you can't keep him from ever making the association. And, when your son's in college and possibly decides to join a fraternity (or even if he doesn't), do you REALLY want to be the parents who named your child Jack Daniel? I mean, please.

PLUS...You're no doubt planning to send out birth announcements. When people read the card announcing one of the happiest occasions of your life, do you really want their first thought to be about liquor??? Because it will be. And then they'll wonder if you did it on purpose or if you were just too dense to notice it. And this will happen again when you send out high school graduation announcements, and then college graduation announcements, and wedding invitations.

And to the person who said Jack Daniel would be the coolest kid on the block or the coolest kid in the fraternity: WHAT? I can't even think of a response to that. That's a real accomplishment...definity what my foremost hope will be when I name my sons...that all the drunk, stupid fraternity boys will think they're cool.

Jack's a great name, and Daniel is a great name. But in this case, please use one or the other, and save the extra one for the next boy. I don't think you can get around this one; it sucks, but it's life.

I apologize. I realize sarcasm doesn't come off very well when you are typing. My main point was that the name is cute now, but do you want it to have that connotation later? I agree with the posters who said that at solemn occasions you would not want people to snicker, and John Daniel with the nn Jack is perfect.

Again I am sorry,

Ashley

I'm not sure if you know who they are, but Gabriel Byrne and Ellen Barkin (actor/actress) named thier son Jack Daniel as well, so it has been done before...=)

I have a friend who's son is Jack Daniel, he is called JD; unless you are going to call him Jack Daniel all the time (& not just Jack) I don't see a problem.
