Joel said with 2 syllables is the same pronounciation as the girl name Joelle (jo-elle), wouldn't it? Maybe I am misunderstanding though. If you used it as the way you are saying, you would constantly be correcting people that they are saying it the traditional way, and telling them how you want it pronounced. Just a thought, and let me know if I am way off base here!

Thanks!

Actually, the Spanish pron. would be Ho-El, yes? If you are Spanish/Hispanic or you live in an area with high hispanic population, I can see why you would want to use that pronunciation and confusion would be limited.

If you are going for the Jo-El pronunciation, people will always confuse it with the feminine Joelle.

I really like Joel, pron. Jol. I also like Joelle for a girl, though it's not necessarily a favorite of mine. I'm not a huge fan of the Spanish pron., but if you have personal reasons for using it, go for it.

No, I know that the J usually makes the H sound in Spanish but not in this case.
