Catherine is my favorite way of spelling it.. Timeless! Gorgeous, graceful & regal. That's how I see a Catherine. A Katherine, to me is more gregarious and scuffs up more easily. A Kathryn is bookish & quiet also a bit shy. Any other spelling of Catherine will just be confusing, the three I just typed out are the most easily figured out by people.

I'm really torn between Katherine and Catherine. My sister's DD is Katherine (nn Katie/Kate). My DH's mother's MN was Catherine and DH's sister and brother each named their DDs with the MN of Catherine. MN was very British and Catherine had been a name in her family for generations (both of her grandmothers had been Catherines) so I tend to think of that as being more British (I may be wrong on that though).

I voted for Katherine. I've also seen it Katherin, which was cute. My aunt was born Katherine, changed it to Catherine though. I really like it with a C also, and Kathryn & Katharine. Can't really go wrong with this name!

I love this name-it's my sister's name and she spells it Catherine. That is definitely my favorite spelling-the C is softer and feminine imo...it's a nice, classic, spelling. My second choice would be Katherine. Those are the classic spellings and the only ones I would use personally.

Good luck-do you have a mn picked out?

I really don't mind any of the spellings of Catherine -- they are all acceptable in my book.

I like Catherine best -- it seems most classic and regal and elegant.

I think the "y" spellings -- Kathryn or Cathryn -- are definitely more "trendy" or seem more modern. (funny how someone else saw Kathryn as "bookish"!)

I did have a friend named Katherin, who was forever saying "no e." There are infinite variations.

In response to the person who asked if I had a middle name, picked out: I'm not pregnant, I'm just fascinated with the millions of ways people seem to spell this name. I decided to make the poll because I read a birth announcement for a Cathrine, and I'd never seen the name spelled that way.

Like many of you, I prefer the C variations. My favorite, though, is Catharine. I like Catherine fine, but I think that replacing the E with an A emphasizes that the name has 3 syllables, not 2. Therefore, I dislike all the varieties that remove the middle syllable altogether (Kathryn, Cathryn, Kathrine, etc.).
