Ok, my dh has decided if we have a boy he wants to name him Jesse. But he also likes it for a girl! Not Jessica, mind you. Just Jessie. I've never liked the name Jessica much. But I have mixed feelings about this name for a girl. What do ya'll think?

I think it needs to be a shortened form of another name (like Jessica)

I agree, it would be nicer if Jessie were the nickname (and like you I don't like Jessica that much). Maybe something different?

Jesilyn, Jessamine, Jessamy, Jessinia/Jescenia/Jesenia (this means flower), Jessa/Jessah, Jessiya, Janet (name book lists Jessie as a Scottish form/nn for Janet ... who knew?)

I hate Jessica. I love the nick name Jessie for a girl, but I would get there through Jessamyn. Jesse is a great boy name!

I've known two women with the name of Jessy. It is a Scottish name from my understanding. It is a name all by itself for a girl, and perhaps spelling it with the "y" ending helps to distinguish it that way. The first woman I knew with that name is now in her early 50s and was named for her grandmother. The other woman was my pastor's mother, who moved here from Scotland in her early adult years. Good luck!

I think Jessie will be fine on it's own.

Just Jessie is Just Fine for a girl!! :) Actually I love the name Jessie. It's very high on my favorites list. But I don't like Jessica at all.

I also really like Jesse for a boy.

Thanks for the responses, everyone. You know, the more I think about it, the more it grows on me! At this point it looks like it might be a Jesse, or a Jessie, either way!

I like Jessie on it's own! Very cute. I actually knew a girl once who's name was Jesse. I didn't care for the boy spelling but I liked that it was "just" Jesse/Jessie.
