I seem to be gravitating toward the "Gw" names. I voted for Gwenora but I would change the mn to Pearl or Scarlett (or steal Aoife off your other poll).

I love the name Grainne, but I don't like it paired with Pearl. I think a different mn would work better.

I voted for Nolanna - but I don't like Pearl at all - all I can envision with that is some very very old ladies I knew when I was a kid

Thanks again (just replied to your other post LOL). ;)

Gwenora Pearl is my other favorite Gwenora combo. I hadn't paired Scarlett up with it because I thought it might be too much (but I did just add it to the list). I'll only use Aoife with a non-A ending fn (bugs me LOL).

Sorry, I can't vote for any of these. I think they are all a little heavy and odd to burden a little girl with. Just my opinion.

Um, thanks?

You certainly need not vote, but as many have recently pointed out, making a rude comment but following it up with "just my opinion" doesn't really make it any less rude. I understand not everyone shares my taste in names, or is familiar with many of the Celtic ones I happen to love, and if that's not your style or heritage that's fine. But describing every single one as "heavy," "odd" and a "burden" in one fell swoop is pretty narrow-minded.

For example, while many would consider Nolanna different, it is far from heavy, and sounds almost identical to Alanna(h) -- which many, myself included, find to be lovely -- and even has a light, almost Hawaiian sound (not my own observation, it's simply been pointed out to me recently). Serenna is no "odder" than Serena or Serenity, both of which are rather well-known, at least in my area. Branwen is also pretty well-known, and while it's still different, I wouldn't call it odd or a burden. LOL Nearly every Gwen- name has a very soft sound to me, so while Gwenora may not be as well-known as, say, Gwendolen, I certainly wouldn't call it heavy. And "oddly" enough, I don't find any of the mn choices listed to be odd in the least.

So basically what I'm saying is, regardless of your own name preferences, simply lumping an entire list together and generalizing them is both intolerant and impolite.

I generally ignore such comments (especially since I didn't ASK for comments on the individual names anyway), but such comments are rather unnecessary. If your sweeping dislike of every single name is honest and intended, or if you have an actual comment about a particular name, that doesn't bother me in the least. But in the future, not voting at all or a simple "these aren't really my style" would suffice.

Thanks.

I would have loved to vote for Lila Vivienne, which I think is lovely. I voted for Branwen, but I prefer Bronwen. Also, like a previous poster, I adore Aoife. Of all the names mentioned, this one is probably my favorite first name (but I don't know if it's still a choice, or if it was ever a first name choice...?). Aoife Bronwen is very pretty, as is Aoife Vivienne...at least I think so. :-)

Thanks for the input.

I already know from the past two girls that my dh won't go for Aoife as a fn. A mn I might be able to get. ;) Also, although the sound is different in this case, I prefer to avoid the same first initials if possible (just a personal thing), not to mention the fact that Devanie has begun referring to herself as Evie (because she can't say her whole name), and Aoife as a fn would be much too close to that for me.

I absolutely love Lila, but it's definitely out as a fn for similar reasons. As you may or may not know, we generally call Abigail Aila, and I could NOT have both an Aila and a Lila. LOL I still like it though, and couldn't bear to take it off the mn list.

So you see, I DO have my reasons for having to keep the names on the mn list strictly that.

As to Branwen, I visually prefer this spelling for a variety of reasons, but that feeling was further enforced recently when someone mentioned that Bronwen looked a bit like a typo of "brown." LOL Not nearly as attractive to me thanks to that comment, because now I can't help but see the word brown in it. ;) Also, I've actually heard of/met quite a few girls named Branwen in both our area and near my husband's family (even one Branwen McCormick! LOL), and this is the spelling always used, so it would be the most common and expected, at least around here (making it less likely she'd be constantly correcting people, KWIM?).

Of course, all that could easily change by the time we would have number four! ;)

Just to counter the poster who didn't like any of these, I just wanted to say that I like all of them. I definitely have a favorite, though. ;)

So, since I can't actually vote 20 times - Grainne Pearl, Grainne Pearl, Grainne Pearl!

Of course! I wasn't paying attention to who the poster was. You definitely can't have Aila and Lila! Are you pronouncing Branwen the same as Bronwen? Or is it a more definite soft A sound? I think my objection to the spelling was mostly due to the fact that Branwen with the soft A sounds sort of whiny. But that's probably just me. :-)

My other concern is that Branwen doesn't sound as girly as Devanie/Evie and Abigail/Aila. I know that's probably not a big deal for you, but nonetheless, that's my first perception. I definitely don't think it's a bad name, though...far from it.

Keep throwing out suggestions! But definitely, definitely keep Aoife and Lila as middle name possibilities! Love both of them! Just curious, although I think I know the answer to this but just can't remember right now: what are Devanie and Aila's middle names?
