Lilian, nickname Lila?

  • Very pretty.
  • Different, but nice.
  • Like the first name, but not the nickname.
  • Like the nickname, but not the first name.
  • Like both, but not Lila as a nickname for Lilian.
  • Neither is my style.
  • Both are just awful.

This isn't for me. It's for a friend who's expecting a little girl in a few months. Feel free to offer your comments or other suggestions!

Her MIL's name is Lilian, but she's tired of all the little Lily/Lili/Lilly/Lillie varieties running around. And, she thinks that two Lilians would be confusing, because they see her MIL a lot. So, since she likes the name Lila, she thought it may be a good compromise. I really like it, but I wanted to see what you ladies thought.

By the way, this is the original pronunciation of Lila, with a long I, as in "ride". Not a short I as in "little".

IMO, just use Lila and skip Lilian.

Your boys are adorable! Congrats on the baby girl! She's not going to be spoiled much, is she? :-)

I'm with Liz -- I'd just name her Lila.
