I love Lorelei (prefer the spelling Lorelai), but I don't think Leigh goes well with it. Kind
Amy, mom to Nate (9), Calvin (7), and Tobias (4). You can find me at my blogs:

I'm actually leaning toward using Lorelei Mae (my grandmother's mn was Mae). However, I'm still toying with other middle name ideas. I really like Lorelei Giselle but hubby won't go for it. Reminds him too much of a gazelle, which I don't think is bad thing, but he hates it. There aren't really any other family names I like except maybe Cynthia, which is my mom's name. I'm just not sure I care for the ring of Lorelei Cynthia.

Any more ideas would be appreciated....

I voted for other. I didn't get the "Gentlemn Prefer Blodes" reference, but I don't think it flows well together. It's a tongue-twister.

Personally, I really like Lorelei Cynthia for you. I think it flows well and it has a nice family significance. I also like Lorelei Mae.

I really like the name Lorelei but the alliteration of Leigh just doesn't go. Some suggestions:

Lorelei Dawn
Lorelei Brooke
Lorelai Paige
Lorelai Tate

I like Lorelei but not with Leigh.

Is there another mn you could consider using?

The film connection doesn't mean much to me (these days I mostly watch - or try to avoid watching, really - a lot of anime on the local kids' channel; I'm rather behind on my classic film viewing). I do know that there has been some discussion of how strong the "Gilmore Girls" association is with Lorelei and whether this is problematic or not (yes, I do get to watch that one - Daya likes it too). So I wanted to point out that one of the Lorelais in the show is Lorelai Leigh Gilmore. I'm pretty sure it's Rory, and Lorelai is Lorelai Victoria. Granted, the full names I believe have only been mentioned once each, at Rory's high school graduation and Lorelai's business school graduation. I'm obviously a fan of the show, and I think Lorelei is a viable and lovely choice - and thank goodness you're using that spelling, I cringe everytime I read Lorelai in the tv guide - but even as a fan I wouldn't endorse Lorelei Leigh. I seem to recall thinking, the first time I saw the relevant episode, that Lorelai Leigh must have been the product of the same medication-induced train-of-thought that got 16-year-old Lorelai thinking "If men can name their sons after themselves, why can't I?" It sounds too alliterative and 'sing-songy', and even as a fan I think it probably does cross the line in seeming too "Gilmore Girls" derived. I love Lorelei Giselle, the two names striking me as appropriate together in both sound and history, but since you can't convince your husband of that one, I think Lorelei Mae is very lovely too.

Thank you for the advice! I agree that Lorelei Leigh probably isn't the best choice - I just needed to hear it from others. :) I like many of the suggestions that were given. Although I like the idea of honoring my grandmother with the mn Mae, I'm just becoming less and less happy with using it next to Lorelei. It just doesn't give off the feel I would like. It almost makes the name seem old-fashioned, which isn't bad, it's just not what I'm going for. That's why I loved Giselle, but alas it's not meant to be. I'm lucky dh agreed to Lorelei. :)

WDYT about these with our last name....More suggestions are welcome. I'm going for a classy, elegant feel. I'm not sure any of these give that off or not...

Lorelei Paige Thomas
Lorelei Laine Thomas
Lorelei Faye Thomas
Lorelei Evelyn Thomas

BTW, dh still LOVES Lorelei Michelle. I think because it's my mn. I'm just not sure about it. Seems like there are better options out there, KWIM?

I don't even know what the "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" connection is - but I do not think the two names go together very well - too L-heavy

the way Lorelei is pronounced is very heavy on both Ls, then to go into another L for the midldle is just so much

what was the reason for the Leigh?
