I LOVE Mason, this would be the name of our next son if dh didn't hate it, lol. When I was doing the name game below one of the intial combos were MH and I came up with Mason Harlow and I just love these names together. :)
I have heard it too often, it is becoming boring to me. Similar names that have a bit more strength to me are Nolan, Jared, Jonah, Fionn, Garrett, Shane & Cory.
I wasn't quite sure how to vote. Obviously, it's trendy, but you already knew that (and if you didn't, I'm sure this poll has aptly pointed it out LOL).
Also, I definitely wouldn't say it's "cheesy," since even I liked the name many years ago, before it started popping up everywhere (it's now one of the most popular names in my area, along with Jadon, Jacob, Noah, etc. ... not to mention all the little girl Masynne/Mayson/Maesyns you run into, thanks to similar crossovers like Madison/Madysyn, Jadon/Jaydin, et al).
However, it does seem really common and lacking -- creativity, originality, unexpectedness, appeal ... you choose, I can't put my finger on it specifically. For that reason, I finally went with boring, because just like many other trendy names currently popular, it's rapidly losing it's appeal, and will now -- unfortunately -- seem very dated, very quickly.
In short, if it weren't so incredibly trendy and overwhelmingly popular, I'd like it, but given its current state, I'd warn against it.
This name is ultra-popular around my neck of the woods. I know 5 Masons under the age of one. The last time I took ds to the doctor, 2 Masons and a Grayson were taken back while we waited.
In other words, I picked trendy. I like Mason, and it is a handsome name. Unfortunately, it's so trendy it left refreshing behind a long time ago and is very quickly becoming boring.
