I love Maxwell, but if you don't plan to use that, I like just plain Max best, or your idea of a Mac name nn Max.

How about Mack? You could call him Macks/Max. Like some people call Jack nn Jacks. Just a thought.

Well, Maxim is the name of a "men's magazine" (I think its like playboy, they always have naked women on the front) so definatly don't name your son that!

Wow, I did not know that! Thanks for the info. I taught with a colleague who adopted a son from Russia, and his name was Maxim. She has since moved on to another school, so I thought it could be a possibility---but not if it will be synonymous with Playboy!

Yep. My jerk of a BIL gets that Maxim magazine. For sure steer clear of it for a baby name.

I looked up some Max names to see what other options I could find. Didn't have any luck with Max but I did come across Jaxon which I really like. Of the names originally listed I like Maxton the best after Max which I voted for.

Just my humble opinion, but if you like the name Max and plan on calling your son Max, why not just name him Max? Max stands on its own well enough and I don't think it needs any embelishment unless a longer Max name has some significance for you. At some point adding on extra letters to Max to make a longer name just sounds sort of pretentious, but that's just my opinion!

Best wishes!

Thanks, Sarah, for your thoughts. I am not sure I do want to make it longer, but my other two sons have longer names that shorten to one syllable: Nicolas "Nick" and Lucas "Luke". Mainly we did that because of dh's Mexican heritage: Nicolas and Lucas are "real" names in spanish, Nick and Luke are not. Max is not really a spanish "name" (as in, accepted as a name by primarily spanish speaking people), though Maximilian is----I think Maximilian sounds pretentious, so I was looking for something else that would be more accepted as a name by some of our family/friends. They would accept Max, there would just be a bit of teasing, which I was hoping to avoid. This was an add-in name, anyway, our forerunner right now is Gabriel.
