sounds best together Anika Helene. Our cat's name is Anikan after Darth Vader in Star Wars. I love the name.

It's funny you mentioned Star Wars. When my husband first suggested Anika I told him no way because I didn't want to worry about my daughter going over to the Dark Side! It's grown on me, though, and it fits well with our other two kids' names so we've hung on to it. Seems to be the front runner as of right now.

Isn't she meaning Anika like Anita? That's what I see, not Annika.

Anika/ Annika is the same name, meaning little Anna/ Ana.

Anikan, like the guy in Star Wars, is pronounced with an a like apple, a short i like ick, and then the last part like "kin" as in someone related to you - ANN-i-kin.

We would pronounce Anika with a short i as well, like ANN-i-kuh, short a like apple and not with the New Jersey short a like we normally pronounce Ann but not with a British short a like they pronoune Ann ("ahhhh", like "I'm so relaxed."). Does that make sense? The reason for the spelling is that our other daughter has a five letter name with a k (that some people are confused about because it really was a boy's name) and our son's name is six letters, so I wanted the girls to have five letter names with a k.

Anika is an accepted spelling of the name. I didn't just make it up.

Hope that helps.

Kara

I may have the spelling on Mr. Skywalker-turned-Darth-Vader wrong. It may be Anakin. Either way, it's pronounced like I explained before.

Yes you are right about that, the actor that plays Anikins mother is a Swede.
