I don't really prefer the -land endings either, but I definitely wouldn't worry about the Lachlan/Lackland/Lochlan connection, since the AFB is named after a person who's surname was Lackland (most likely a form of Lachlan/Lochlan no matter how you spell it). Just like I wouldn't decide against using the name Scott just because there's a Scott AFB, KWIM? Of course, if we were in the military and had a strong connection to one of these places that might be a different story (just like I wouldn't name my child Hellertown after the city we live in now LOL).

I voted for Finnian Heath but also really like Riordan Henry, Rowan Elliott, Breckin Sawyer and Lachlan Miles.
Ah, I see your point. I thought you meant it was too close to the spelling of the AFB for you (since you're in the military). I didn't mean to offend, btw, since I wasn't aware this was a name you'd also considered.
The pronunciation thing doesn't bother me, especially since people genuinely unfamiliar with the name might be apt to pronounce it lach-lan or loch-lan (CH rather than K sound) anyway. Most who ARE familiar with it know they are interchangeable. I've nothing against the loch- spellings, but if I were intent on using the Irish version, rather than the Scottish Lachlan, I would probably use Lochlann or even Lochlainn. Although these are often shortened to simply Lochlan, especially on name boards, that actually seems to be the least common (surprising as that may seem).
So basically, if someone's going to mispronounce it, they'll probably do so no matter the spelling. Lachlan is just more appealing to me for many reasons, just as Lochlan is more favorable to you. ;)
Thanks for the input!

Glad to hear I didn't offend. ;) Definitely not my intention.
I've actually had Lachlan on the list for the past two, both of which ended up being girls (I have THREE girls total! LOL). I'm sure it would be shortened to Lock at some point, since the girls' names get shortened all the time. It's actually a nice nn. I even considered the spelling of it (Lock, Lach, Loch, etc.), but it would most likely just be Lock. I'm way past worrying about spelling a name to accomodate a nn (or else I'd have pushed harder for Caitlin for my first, but I let the same-initials-as-mom arguement of my dh's sway me ). LOL
I know you've been on here a bit (I love your siggy ), so you're probably already familiar with me, but in case you're not (or for anyone else reading) I figured I'd clarify that this is my list for #4 (not yet conceived ... my youngest is only three months old! LOL). I know if and when we have a fourth, that will be it for us, so I don't mind putting in a little extra effort, KWIM? Doesn't hurt to have the list ready! ;)

I'm naming my 4th boy Lachlan August. I prefer the spelling Lachlan as well, and since I'm naming him after my father's surname, from the Scottish MacLachlan (not my father's name, but his is a derivitive of this name), it makes sense to me to keep this spelling. I have been told in no uncertain terms that the nn will be Locke, so there you go, lol. I was thinking of Lock or Lake, but the nn will probably be spoken much more often that written. I don't have a clue as to how to spell my 3rd son's nn. His name is Orion, and we call him Oh-ie, but I certainly would not spell that out, lol.
Yeah, you are probably right that people will mispronounce it, but people mispronounce Orion too. We joked we should have spelled his name O'Ryan...then people would get it.

Ooh, Lachlan August is stunning! ;) I'm sure I've seen you mention Lachlan, but didn't realize the mn was set. Very nicely done.
I also like the Locke nn spelling, btw. And you're right not to worry about spelling out Oh-ie. The only time I even think the spelling of a nn matters is if it's one the child uses on a daily basis (like if he would want to use it at school or something), but if it's just an at-home nn it's no big deal anyway.
I actually didn't even think about using Kate or Kait for Kaitlyn until recently, now that she likes to be called Kate (my preferred spelling). She knows how to write her name, however, and knows Kait spells the "Kate" part of her name. ;) We've put Kaitlyn on all her school forms for now and I'll let her decide what to put once she's a little older.
