Naming baby boy, due Oct '05: What do you think of the name Harry Thomas?
- Love it!
- Like it
- It's OK
- Yuck
- Other (suggestions welcome - FYI: big bro is Jack Henry)
You will be able to change your vote.

I voted "it's ok" b/c I think Harrison Thomas flows a little easier than Harry Thomas.
Jack Henry & Harrison Thomas (nn Harry).
Just a thought...

Yes, we've thought about Harrison Thomas, but our last name is quite long (10 letters, 3 syllables), so we were hoping to keep it a little shorter. Oy. I never realized how hard this would be! We're so thrilled to be having another boy, but we used our favorite name the first time around, so nothing is sounding just right to us. Ack!
Thanks for your input!

Yeah, I guess we're not really thinking of Harry as another form of Henry. Kind of like, when people heard we were naming our first DS Jack, they asked if it was "really" going to be John, and we'd call him Jack. I know Jack can be a nickname for John, but that thought just never occurred to me. He's just Jack, LOL.
Thanks for your help!

If it makes you feel any better, our last name is 11 letters (3 syllables), and DH's fn and mine both have 9 letters (his with 2 syllables, mine 3). Our younger DD has an 8-letter name with 4 syllables. They are definitely long names, but not that big of a deal. Plus, if he goes by Harry most of the time, I think it's even less of a big deal. Harrison will just give him a more formal fn if he wants it.
I do like Harry Thomas (even with your older DS having the mn Henry), but I prefer Harrison.
Just my 2 cents,

Thanks for the suggestions. We've actually given up on sticking with an initial (we tried working with "I" or "M," as those are the initials of two relatives who have recently passed on, and it's our tradition to name for deceased relatives, if we can). Unfortunately, DH and I just can't find anything that we truly love beginning with those letters. Heck, we can't find anything we truly love, period, LOL!
We're basically looking for a strong, masculine name that will go well with big brother, Jack Henry. Nothing too overused (we didn't realize how popular Jack would be when we chose it!), something comfy and relatively traditional. Here are some other ones on our list:
Sam (Samuel)
Noah
Eli
Leo (I really like this one, but DH is very much against it -- oh, well!)
William (though we really don't like "Bill" as a nickname, so we're wary on this one)
Ian (the only "I" that's even remotely liked around here)
Thanks for the help!

Kim,
I actually like Harry just fine, but I'm not crazy about Thomas. I will say that I like your other names better.
Sam (Samuel): This is such a great name. I only know good Sams. It's strong and handsome but not too much either. It goes GREAT with Jack. You could do Samuel Thomas, but I prefer Samuel Ian. If our ln didn't start with an "S" this would have been my top choice.
Noah: I thought I loved this name until I thought about actually calling my child that day after day. Then I just didn't like it as much for some reason. It's sort of like how I can LOVE a bedding set, but only for a dreamy guest room--not for my own bedroom.
Eli: I like this one as well and it would fit well with Jack. Eli Thomas and Eli Samuel are very nice.
Leo (I really like this one, but DH is very much against it -- oh, well!) I think I'm more on your DH's side on this one. It just doesn't do much for me.
William (though we really don't like "Bill" as a nickname, so we're wary on this one). Have you thought of Liam as a nn? I love Liam and Will is nice too, but very popular in my circles. William Noah, William Thomas, William Eli are all great.
Ian (the only "I" that's even remotely liked around here)
So I'd vote for:
Samuel Ian NN "Sam"
William Eli NN "Liam"
Harry William
They are all GREAT names!
Thank you, ladies, for all of the great suggestions! I'll be sharing your posts with my DH, and, hopefully, we'll come to an agreement soon.
Thanks again! You've been so helpful!
