Narrowed down list of girl's names:

  • Annabel
  • Marielle (pronounced "Mary Elle")
  • Vivian (nn V or Vivi)
  • ********************************************
  • Can anyone think of other one syllable names
  • to follow Anna or Mary (think Annabel, MaryKate)
  • I love old-fashioned 3 syllable girl's names-
  • any other suggestions? Very feminine since we have 3DS.

I voted for Annabel, but I also love Vivian.

My vote went to Annabel since you seem to like the "el" sound endings (Annabel and Marielle, KWIM?), but I also really like Vivian (Viviana and Vivianne are also valid forms, btw, if Anna is a family name).

Other Anna and Mary names:

Annabeth
Annalisa/Annelise
Annegret
Annelien (ahn-uh-LEEN)
Annemarie (Anna and Mary )
Annika
Annora(h)
Hanna
Pollyanna
Rosanna
Saranna
Julianne/a
Alanna(h)
Marian(ne)/Marianna/Maryann (another two-fer)
Mairenn
Maribel
Marigold
Marilyn
Mariska
Marybeth
Rosemary

You could also do a double name with pretty much any short, simple name.

Anna Clare
Mary Jane
Anna Pearl
Mary Gwen
Anna Rose
Mary Tess

Ivy Anne
Ruby Ann(a)

You get the idea. ;)

Have you considered:

Anna Claire
Mary Claire
Marianna
Marianne
Mariella
Anna Grace
Anna Kate
Anna Beth
Mary Beth
Anna Faith
Mary Faith
Mary Hope
Anna Hope
Anna Jane
Mary Tess

I voted for Marielle, but think Marianne is more old fashioned. Marielle is more mod. Vivian is harsher than yoru other choices, more sophisitcated, less quaint. Annabel is nice but seems more English than the others.

Thanks for the great replies! I originally had several of these alternates on my list but they ranked low in polling (esp. Eleanor- sp Elinor, Amelia) and have had Stella, Helena, Gwendolyn on my list over the years.

I recently saw the name Annalise/Anneliese but wonder how to pronounce it. Is it 2-syllable "Anna-leese" or 3-syllable "Anna-lee-za"? I only like the 2-syl.

I do think Marianne is sweet, and I love that spelling. The only problem is it sounds too plain to me. Marielle sounds more sophisticated, and certainly stands out more.

My very favorite girls name is Mae I also really love Kate and Jane so those are the one syllable names that come to mine instantly.

There isn't a two syllable form (since Anna itself IS two-syllables). ;)

Annalisa is four syllables (basically the two-syllable name Anna plus the two-syllable name Lisa).

Anneliese is technically ah-ne-LEE-zu, but I've heard it pronounced ah-ne-LEES.

Annelise I've almost always heard ah-ne-LEES, and is the simpler spelling if you like the name.

I have a coworker who is named Marylee - so that might be a possibility. I love Marielle, though, so I voted for that one.

Also:

Annabeth
Annaliese
Marianne
Marilyn
