I was surprised by your comment about Ridge being less "out-there" and more acceptable, because in my experience Ridge and Cedar are by far the most "unique" of these four. I've actually heard of quite a few baby Canyons, possibly because it sounds so similar to the popular Cameron (which many will hear when it's spoken), a big hit with both boys and girls at the moment. Colorado also follows the trend of random place names, such as Dakota, Camden, Arizona, London or Paris (random meaning many parents choose these as names simply because they like how they sound, but they actually have no personal connection to these places). It would also fit in with many "Western" names currently popular.
So out of the four listed, Ridge and Cedar (which I've never heard as names) would certainly seem the most unique. Incidentally, I think you mentioned in your other poll that River seems too "weak" for a masculine name, and I get that same feeling from Cedar. It just has a very soft sound to it. Just thought I'd mention it since that seems to be one of your criteria.

Of the 4 names, the only one that comes up in the social security list is Canyon, which was at 1000 in 2003. I've seen it a lot recently on lists, though, so I would not be too surprised if it makes it back onto the charts in the next few years. But you just never know.

Kelli & Sarah, thanks so much! That actually makes me feel alot better about choosing Canyon. I do like Ridge, it's just, I don't know, not as attractive to me as Canyon. And Kelli, I totally agree that Cedar does sound a little soft. I would definitely chose Ridge before Cedar.
I actually have not seen Canyon in a single baby name list, so I'm surprised to hear it's out there. We actually came up with it all by ourselves (e.g., we didn't get it off of a list) even though it sounds that other people have been thinking about it as well.
We are just total outdoors people, we love and respect nature so much, God's creation is just unbelievable. I actually love the name Forrest as well but my husband absolutely refuses b/c of Forrest Gump. :-)
I'm surprised that Ridge is winning. I just cannot picture someone named that.
