Oooh, EDEN, EDEN, EDEN, LOL! I LOVE Eden and much nicer from your other choices of Lorelei and Julia. I would have a little girl named Eden if I didn't already have an Ethan. So I guess that would be something for you to think about because you've been tossing the idea around about using Ethan someday but if you use Eden then you couldn't do so. Just a thought. I like the way Eden Michelle flows, too.

I know your reasons behind wanting to use Lorelei, and that is by far my favorite for you. ;)

Julia is timeless, and I really love it, but I like that Lorelei is more unique (and reflects your German heritage). If your ln were more unusual, it might be a toss-up for me, but with the common ln Thomas I'm definitely apt to lean toward the less common choice. In fact, I've known at least one Julia Thomas myself!

I don't think I remember you mentioning Eden in the past, and while it has a lovely sound/image, it's one of those names that always seems trendy to me ... along the lines of Skye or Storm, KWIM?

They all sound the same with Michelle, so that doesn't affect my choice. I don't know if that makes sense, but even though I know it's you mn, it seems equally dated with all of them, but it doesn't sound any better or worse with any one choice (for example, if you were considering Muriel Michelle I'd say the fn and mn were too similar, KWIM?).

HTH ... good luck deciding! ;)

I agree with Kelli's comments. I love Lorelei for you best, Julia is second as its a nice classic, but Eden just seems trendy, no matter what. It falls along the same lines, IMO, as Destiny, Hope, Faith, Trinity, etc.

The whole Eden/Ethan thing did occur to me. Unfortunately, you're right. I'm going to have to pick one or the other. DH loves the name Ethan more than he likes Eden so that may be my ultimate answer. I still want to hold onto it for awhile, though. WDYT of Eden with our other boy name choice, Christian? Too matchy in a religious sort of a way or do you think they go well together?

I think they sound fine together but I've never been a fan of Christian. It just seems so feminine to me as do others - Tristan, Gabriel, Evan, Devon. I find Ethan to be a very strong and masculine name so I'd definitely choose Ethan over Christian. I only know of 1 Eden and she's 7 or 8. I don't think it's too popular but I may be wrong.

What do you think about...

Lorelei Eden Thomas

Do you like this more or less than Lorelei Michelle? Obviously Michelle has significance because it's my mn, but I like the name Eden a lot. WDYT of the flow?

I like Lorelei Eden better than Lorelei Michelle. It just seems fresher, through my eyes. I like Eden Lorelei even that much more, though. I think that has really nice flow. :)

Oooh ... I know you addressed that question to Terra but may I comment?

I actually like the flow of Lorelei Eden Thomas very much. I think the difference in the consonant/vowel pattern helps a lot, if that makes sense. For example, I tend to break up LOR-e-LEI mi-CHELLE kind of like that (singsongy -- DA-da-DA-da-DA, KWIM?), but Lorelei Eden flows much more naturally for me.

Also, I should probably clarify what I said about Eden previously ... I think I already mentioned that it does have a very nice sound and meaning, but that it seems kind of trendy as a fn (because I automatically associate it with certain "word" nature names). I do like it for a mn, however. Just wasn't sure if that came across as more negative than I'd intended. ;)

Kelli,

No, your comments didn't come across negative at all! Thanks for the additional feedback!

I can't decide how I feel about the sound and flow of Lorelei Eden. Separately, the two names are by far my favorites. However, do you think Eden sounds too harsh next to Lorelei? Michelle gave it a certain flow because of the "L" sounds in both the names. I keep thinking Eden sounds kind of abrupt/hard next to Lorelei.

Also, another thing I'm concerned about is having two "exotic" names next to each other. Eden may not be as exotic as Lorelei but it's definitely not a name I hear much. One of the reasons I liked Michelle (other than it being my mn) is that it gave her a more traditional name to fall back on should she dislike Lorelei (which I would hope she wouldn't). WDYT?

I think it's great when you love both the fn and mn equally, and Lorelei Eden doesn't sound "harsh" or abrupt to me at all. I think they match well in sound and style without being too similar, and I actually prefer the flow to Lorelei Michelle. I know I mentioned in my previous reply how it sounded a bit repetitive/sing-songey when I said it, and now that you mention it the Ls in both names may be part of that.

As to the two being too exotic to pair, while Eden isn't overly-popular, it still doesn't strike me as too unusual or "foreign." I've known plenty of parents who like the name for it's religious connotations and others who simply like the beauty of it's sound or meaning, so I wouldn't think of it as too exotic. It does tie in with the mythological/nature feeling of Lorelei, but not in an odd way IMO. So I do think the two are different enough to give her options if she doesn't like Lorelei (but why wouldn't she?! LOL). She could go by Lorelei, Eden, Edie, Lori, Rory, Leila/Lila, Lore/a, etc. -- she seems to have pleny of options. ;)

HTH
