Ahhh! That must be it then! Being "just Kelli," which I know can't be short for anything, but is just too darn short in and of itself always bugged me! I wanted a cool nn like all my friends had (or at least the option to have one)! There was a Gretchen who went by Gia (long story, but still cool! LOL), a few Melissas who went by Mel, Miss, Missy or Lissa, Brianne who was, of course, usually just Bri, a few Rebekahs (different spellings) who went by Beck, Becky or Bekah, two Nicoles who were Nik and Nikki, etc. And there I was, just Kelli (Kel if you were feeling lazy or Kelli-belly if you wanted to make me mad LOL, but no really good nns). Guess that's why I like to give my girls the option (even if they don't use them all the time ... Kaitlyn is usually just Kaitlyn, after all).
As to using a descriptive name that doesn't describe the kid, I only think it matters if it's a common name with a well-known meaning, KWIM? Actually, I didn't even think to mention it at first, but Devanie's name actually means dark-haired ... which she is NOT! Both my girls have very light, almost dirty-blonde hair like my husband's (even though mine is VERY dark ... go figure!). So nope, doesn't matter to me in the least ROFL. ;)

Just thought I'd jump in and add that "fair" can also mean beautiful, not just fair-haired, so I think Gwen is perfectly fine on a dark-haired baby!

Oooh, good point, Erin! You'd think I'd have thought of that, since the meaning of Fiora (when used as a form of Fiona) can mean white, fair or beautiful, depending on where you look (and we usually just go with beautiful when anyone asks, especially when combined with it's other possible meaning, when used as a form of Flora, which is flower ... so together, beautiful flower). ;)
