I voted for Lorelei Michelle Thomas b/c I liked the flow of the name. I also like Evangeline as mn. Good Luck!

Those are definitely my top two choices too. I like Michelle because it does seem to flow well and it's my mn, but then again it seems so 1980's, KWIM? Evangeline is beautiful but it's soooo long. Of course, how often do we go by our full names anyway. Perhaps it's not even an issue. I was considering Mina because my grandmother's name was Wilhelmina. I'm just not sure I like it as much as the other two. Rachael is probably my last choice. It doesn't seem to flow as well as the others, but it has personal significance.

Voted for Michelle. I think Racheal or Evangeline would work too. Not a fan of Mina.

You already know I actually like Evangeline, especially with your future name considerations.

If you really want a family name, I like Mina for your grandmother. ;) I think it's very sweet to name a child after someone you are/were very close to, but especially a grandparent.

Besides Michelle being dated, which you mentioned, I'm really not as fond of naming a child after yourself. I don't mind subtle little connections, like the same initials (not for every child, though LOL) or a variation of your mn or something, but simply giving a child your fn or mn (or both, in the case of juniors) honors no one but yourself, KWIM? I know that won't come off like I intend, but I hope you know me well enough not to take it the wrong way. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, honoring your grandmother by passing down a form of her name is a wonderful, sweet thing to do, but giving her your own mn doesn't have the same feel to me.

I suppose I might feel a bit differently if it were a unique mn that reflected your German heritage or something -- like Odilia or Senta, for example -- rather than a dated filler. Again, I don't mean that in a negative way ... my own name is totally dated/trendy/filler mn, etc.

I'll just shut up now.

I chose Rachael, but now that I think about it, I think Michelle flows better. I, personally, think that Rachael looks funny w/o the 2nd a in there.

Kelli - Thanks for the input. I still like Evangeline, but it's such a mouthful with Lorelei that I'm not sure I can get over that aspect of it. Plus, I like it so much that I may save it and use it later on. I kind of like the idea of using it as a first name or perhaps a middle name with something more traditional - Cynthia Evangeline? My mom's name is Cynthia, but she goes by Cindy. I'm considering using Cynthia for another daughter should that time ever come, and I kind of like the name Cynthia Evangline. Or just Evangline as a fn. WDYT?

I am the first to realize that Michelle is a dated name and definitely conjures up images of the 80s, but I still like the idea of passing my mn onto my daughter - dated or not. Plus, my husband LOVES the idea which is another plus, and I kind of like the flow of Lorelei Michelle together. Also, Michelle gives her the option of using a more traditional name should she absolutely hate Lorelei (which I hope she doesn't). BTW, my brother's name is Michael, which I believe is why my parents chose Michelle for my mn. Kind of a way to connect the two of us, I suppose.

HOWEVER, all that being said I'm still not 100% set. Another idea I came up with is Lorelei Julia Thomas. Julia is still a very classic and feminine, and it's a name that has always been on my top ten list. It's just become so popular that I shyed away from using it as a first name. What are your thoughts on this combination?

Thanks for all your help!

Oooh! I actually love Lorelei Julia Thomas. The entire name works for me, and I love that it lets you combine two names you've wanted to use. Assuming it's not a family name, you might not get a lot of positive reaction here, though. ;) I still think it's great when parents use a fn AND mn they love equally, rather than just a filler.

So in short, it's great IMO. ;)

Kelli - So I suggested Lorelei Julia to my dh and he wasn't a fan. :( He said he likes Lorelei Michelle OR Lorelei Noelle. WDYT of the mn Noelle? Would you consider this a filler name?

I'm sure some would disagree, but I consider Noelle a "slightly" filler mn, if that makes sense. I don't think it's as popular/common as, say, Ann(e), Marie, Lynn, etc., but it does seem to be a pretty run-of-the-mill, expected choice, if you KWIM. Also, I can't quite put my finger on it, but I find Lorelei Noelle to be a bit of a tongue twister. Maybe not a tongue twister exactly, but it seems a bit repetitive, like you'd say it to a beat -- LOR-e-LEI-no-ELLE. Maybe the Lo-/No- beginnings of each? I'm not sure. Maybe it's just my headache talking. ;) I'm no help at all tonight. LOL
