NOBLE for BABY GIRL

I would love to give my daughter a family name but we have very few original names. My grandmother's maiden name was NOBLE. Do you think Noble is a nice name for a girl? Too masculine? We were thinking NOBLE ELIZABETH.

Please give your honest opinion!

I think Noble lends itself better to the middle name slot.

My very sweet grandmother was anything but presumptuous. I would love to name my baby girl after her but her other names were Mary Martha. Any ideas how to maybe modify them to be a little more appealing?

I'm sorry - I didn't mean to insult your grandmother. I understood Noble to be a surname, rather than her given name. I love surnames as middle names - it's a tradition in my family, which resulted in my sister's MN being Knox.

Frankly, I like Mary and Martha as they are and I don't think they are being used very much anymore. I know one Martha under 60 and she's 22 (she's a twin and her sister is Mary). Most of the Mary's I know are 30 or older. We do have a Mary Marshall and a Mary Frances at church who are older teens. My mother is Mary Jane, so I considered Mary or variations thereof (however, we had two boys - not so good on them!)

Here are some variations to consider:

Martina
Marina
Maria
Maris
Maribel (could be considered a combination of Mary and Noble)
Marian
Marcine
Marlene
Maureen

I hope that helps! I really did not mean to assume anything about your grandmother - I loved mine and assume most other people love theirs also.

I think Mary is sweet on a little girl (and it's not nearly as popular as it has been in the past). Have you considered Mary Noble? A double honor. ;)

I like Mary, but I'm not wild about Martha. I really love that you want to honor your grandmother. Here are some

I just posted below asking if Noble was a joke, then I saw this. I'm sorry-I know it is a family name, but I really think it's awful for a girl. A son-maybe. But please not for a daughter! You have to think about if you yourself would like to walk around with the name Noble. If it gives you pause, think about what your daughter might go through. As an aside, I do actually like the name Honor for a girl!

My husband's grandmother's maiden name was Noble and my mother-in-law's name us Ann Noble (a middle name) and my sister-in-law's name is Jennifer Noble. It is a very special name and I don't think it's strange at all, especially if you live in the south. I think it would be just as special as a first name. You could also use it as a double name. We have a cousin who goes by Ann Noble as a double first name.
