I grew up with a classmate named Peyton (male), so I don't think of it as trendy, but I think it might have become trendy when I wasn't looking?

Opinions?

Thanks to Peyton Manning (NFL quarterback), the name has become pretty popular, and it's used for both boys and girls. I know at least 2 girl and 2 boy Peyton/Paytons under the age of 6. (I'm in the midwest, by the way.)

I've seen Avery come up on this board several times (for boys or girls), but I don't personally know any kids with the name.

IMO, if you really love a name, I think you should use it regardless of popularity. You could also check the social security website to see the relative popularity of various names.

Congrats on your new baby! And good luck making a decision!

Funny you should ask about Peyton, as my DH and I were just talking about it the other day. I hear Peyton and think of a girl. Plus a friend of mine had a girl a few months back and names her Peyton. My DH said he thinks its a boy name, and cited Peyton Manning.

So I guess it truly can go either way. The only thing I worry about is that when it is like that, I think its tougher to be a boy, in case other kids make fun of it as also being a girls name.

Avery, I also think girl, but it could be just me.

Good luck!

No, I don't hear those names often.
When I think of Peyton I think of a sexual book called Peyton Place. I don't like the name much.
Avery is much nicer. The only Avery I know is a stationery/office supply company!

I love Avery for a girl and Peyton for a boy. I don't think its too trendy at all. You could pair it with a classic mn if you find it a problem.

Avery Abigail

I love the name Avery for a boy. I know they say it is becoming popular, but I've yet to meet an Avery in my 30 years. I also like Peyton for a boy, but the two I know are girls (always stealing the good boys names). I'm not sure how popular it is for either sexes. I would think it would be more popular as a boys names due to Peyton Manning, and sports fans.

They are both very trendy girls names right now. I wouldn't give either one to a baby boy now, although they used to be boys' names.

I know of 3 Averys born in the past year, and two Peytons, just in my circle of acquaintances. Aidan/Aiden is another name that is very popular and "going to the girls."

I like both names. They don't seem too trendy. I've met people named avery, I don't know your ethnic background, but all the Avery's I've even know are of african decent. Just my personal experience. Avery reminds me of a englishman... wasn't the guy's name avery in little women (or am I just plain crazy)?
