Ok, Andrea, I just replied to your reply in my post below, if that makes any sense LOL. If you've already read it, you know I've been loving Zaira lately, so I'm really gonna have to think on this and get back to you. I like both Ailey AND Zaira for you! (I did peek, though, and was surprised to see Zaira's actually quite in the lead LOL). Either would fit perfectly. Of course, if you want to avoid the whole "did you just drop the H off of Hailey comments" Zaira will do the trick. ;) Like I said, I need to think on it. I'll be back! :)

Not sure of the pronounciation of either. Seems like A-Ley, or EYE-Ley
and ZA-Rah or ZY-Ruh. Either way, I think Zaira is a prettier name.

Sorry, Dh andI have been walking around saying these names so much that I didn't even think about pronunciations.

Zaira--rhymes with Sarah

Ailey--rhymes with Hailey (Hay-lee)

Thanks for the responses so far!!

Andrea

I really like Zaira, it's so pretty and unique. I know an adorable little girl named Zarah (Zah-rah) and I love that as well, but I actually like Zaira even better.

I like Ailey and think it's pretty, but I'm really sickof the Hailey/Bailey/Kailey trend and I think she would get lumped in like that. Also, because Ailey is much more unique than the other three, I think she will get a lot of stupid comments from people about her name missing a beginning letter.

If it weren't for the trend issue, I'd probably be pretty torn between them, but wind up with Zaira by a smidge. But as it stands, Zaira wins easily for me.

Ok, Andrea ... I have voted! LOL (And tipped the scales back in Zaira's favor, I might add ... didn't peek before I voted though, promise!).

I thought long and hard on this, because I loved Ailey for you as well, but I think Annie's comments make a good point. I had already mentioned the "Hailey without an H" thing (which I know bothers you ... and probably would bother me a too), but I hadn't even thought about all the little Baileys and (especially) Kaileys running around as well.

Also, not sure if you guys are planning on any more little additions in the future, but if you are it might be even better to avoid another A name with this little girl, or you'll either end up wanting to find yet another A name (or names) for your future babies or wonder if it's weird that the first two are As and the other(s) are not. KWIM?

Ooh, and if you're definitely not planning on any more, you would have already named them from A to Z ... your own little Alpha and Omega, if you will. ROFL

Therefore, after much deliberation, although I really think I like both names about equally, I voted for Zaira. :)

HTH!

~Kelli

Ps. Almost forgot to mention ... when I said just the fn and ln together, I did like the sound of Zaira St. John just a teeny bit better than Ailey St. John. No idea why. Just flowed well in my mind. ;)

Oops ... forgot to add:

I did some "Zaira" research after your last post below and found that the name Zaira also means rose in Arabic (although I'd assume it would be pronounced more like Za-eer-a in Arabic, if that makes sense). Anyway, just thought I'd let you know. :)

Yep, that whole trend thing is exactly what I try to stay away from, too bad I was a little bit before the trend last time with my DD, lol it caught up to us big time and that is what I'm loving so much about Zaira. I am pretty sure in a year or two there aren't going to be a zillion little Zaira's running around. Thanks so much for the response, it is one's like these that make me glad I went back to my list.

Glad I could help. Don't you hate it when names you love, suddenly skyrocket in popularity? For years and years I wanted to have a daughter named Madeline, and now thanks to all the Madeline/Madelyn/Madison/Maddies out there, I've finally scrapped it. It probably worked out for the best, since I wouldn't use both Madeline and Caroline, but still.

Anyway, I didn't even think about the A issue that Kelli brought up. If this is your last one, no big deal, but if you're planning on another baby (or another dozen. whatever. )

I like Ailey! I don't know how to pronounce the other name. I think you should go with Ailey i think it's very pretty.
