Thanks in advance for helping me decide on a name for my baby girl. DH and I are having quite a time agreeing. His favorite is Brynn, which I'm am starting to like more and more, however, I can't really decide on a MN. Does Brynn Anna sound too much like it should be one name, as in Brianna...same question for Julia Ann???

Let me explain the two MNs I've chosen....Jude is DHs name and I think it would be sorta cool to name our DD after him. Ann is my oldest sister's MN. So, I'm pretty set on using one or the other for the MN.

I'd appreciate any other ideas you may have!

Thanks again!

I'm sorry ... I mean this in the nicest way (I'm honestly laughing over here!), but Brynn Anna sounds suspiciously like banana. Couldn't help but giggle.

I didn't get the Jude-for-a-girl thing until I read your explanation. It still doesn't seem the most natural choice, but I get it. If you do end up using it for a mn, Tessa Jude would GMV.

The problem with Anna is that it just doesn't flow well with a lot of the fn choices that end in "a." Tessa Anna, for example, runs together to sound more like Tessaanna, KWIM? You could consider using Ann/Anna as part of a double mn (or simply a name with Ann/Anna in it as the mn). Maryann, Brianna (to use your own suggestion LOL), Susanna, Deanna, etc.

Thanks Kelli...I guess I never thought that Brynn Anna sounded like banana, however, I do NOW! lol!! I would only use Anna with the one syllable names, otherwise it would be Ann. I realize Ann doesn't really flow all that well with my names ending in A, but I really would like to use it to honor my sister.

Thanks for your input!

Thanks Nat...I think of my list, this name is also my favorite! I love the option of either Mattie or Tea for a NN and I think it sounds best with Jude. I think it is also very unique. Now if I could just get DH to agree!

I also voted for Mattea Jude. Different but very nice. Good luck!

Tessa Jude is a little too much Thomas Hardy for me. It's sort of liking naming a daughter Juliet Cordelia and expecting people not to scream, "Shakespeare! Shakespeare!" whenever they hear her name. At least that's what would happen in my group of friends if I birthed a Tessa Jude...people would definitely look at me with puzzled expressions and ask me why in the world I chose to name my daughter after two of Hardy's most ill-fated title characters (Tess of the D'Ubervilles and Jude, the Obscure). And Kelli, I also thought of banana when I saw Brynn Ann...so it's not just you! :-)

To the original poster: If I were you, I'd save Jude for a boy. It's a great, great name, and I'm envious that you have it right there in your immediate family to use. I just think I'd like it better on a little boy.

Of your names, I love Tessa, Brynn, and Juliet. Tessa Juliette would probably get my vote, but the downside is that neither of those names have family connections for you. So, with that considered, Juliette Ann gets my vote (I just prefer the French spelling, but I don't object to your spelling at all).

Ab,

Thanks for your input. As I'm not a fan of Thomas Hardy, the name Tessa Jude still is appealing to me. I would not not use it because of the reason you are giving me. As far as saving Jude for a boy...unfortunately, that is not an option for me because this will be my one and only baby. We are almost positive we are having a girl, so I would really like to name my baby after her daddy. If we are suprised and have a boy, we have a name picked out and will also be named after his daddy...Jude Cazimir.

Anyway...thanks again. This naming thing is much harder than I thought it would be!

It's not a matter of me being a "fan" of Thomas Hardy; I was forced to read several of his books in college because I was an English major. All his books are just darned depressing (Tess gets raped, and then in the end is executed for the murder of the man who raped her. Jude, on the other hand, dies soon after one of his children kills himself and Jude's other children because the little boy feels guilty that Jude is unable to support all of them.). Nasty stuff. So, no, I probably wouldn't stick those two names together. That said, I love the name Tess (it's one of my favorites, and I've often thought of naming a baby Estella--family name--and calling her Tess. I also love the name Jude. So, you can see that I don't dislike the names; I just think they're a bit much together...that's all).

However, like I said before, I love that you want to pass on a family name. Now that you've shared that this is likely your only child, I can understand why you'd want to name her after her father. I'm just sort of in favor of passing on a piece of her mama, too. :-) What's your middle name, or perhaps your mother's name?

Hi Ab,

My name is Stephanie Dawn...neither of which I'm overly fond of!! I would love to use my mother's mn and it would work...Jean, but, unfortunately, that is also my DH's X-wife's name!! So, that is out too. Any other ideas for me???

TIA!
