Aurore is French for "dawn," literally the dawning of the sun in the morning. As it happens, this was my name in my French class (we had to pick a French name to be called by). It's pronounced oh-rore, and I just love it. Ann-Aurore would be a fantastic double name, I think (am I remembering correctly that Ann is your sister's name?). I also like Jude Aurore, but I'm not sure whether you'd want to call your daughter by the exact name of her father...could get tricky.

Zora is another of my favorites, and it is Slavic for "dawn." Zora Jude would be beautiful, I think. Actually, I like this better than Ann-Aurore. Plus, to me, Zora and Tessa have a similar feel, but Zora would give her a connection to both her mom and her dad...which I love, especially if she is to be your only child.

Stephanie is Greek for crown or garland. Laura is from the Latin, and it relates to the crown of laurel leaves made for and worn by heroes as a symbol of victory. Also, Laura was Petrarch's beloved; once you've read one of the love poems he wrote in her honor, you'll love the name forever. Laura Jude is lovely.

Also, Stella Jude would be pretty, which uses the first letters from your name (on this note, you could go with Stella Juliet, which would use the first letters of your name and the first letters of his name). Stella has a similar literary feel; Astrophel and Stella is a group of sonnets written by Philip Sidney. Every time I read the one about Stella's eyes, I want to cry; they're beautiful.

So, my suggestions, in order of preference, would be as follows:
Laura Jude / Zora Jude (I can't decide which of these I love more...)
Stella Jude
Ann-Aurore
Stella Juliet

Let me know what you think!

P.S. I'm an only child, and I loved every second of it!

Ab,

You give such wonderful suggestions! Thank-you!! I really love Stella Jude or Stella Juliet, however, I'm quite sure that DH would go for neither! I also think Ann-Aurore is very lovely. It's quite a coincidence that you suggested Laura Jude...my DHs 2nd oldest daughter is named Lora!

Again, thank-you for the time you took to respond and give me such great advice!

Stinking men! They make everything more difficult! How much easier would life be if they'd just let US name the babies? I have my heart set on two names for my first two daughters, which is interesting since I'm neither married nor pregnant (nor planning to be either in the immediate future, if all things go as planned). But anyway, I just know some man is going to come along who doesn't like my names...and then where will I be?

Sorry Laura's out of the question, because Laura Jude seemed pretty perfect. I'm still in love with Zora Jude for you, though, even if it does rhyme with Lora; there's just something very provocative about Z names, I think. And, I think you should give hubby a hard time about Stella...after all, this is the only baby you're going to get to name! That should count for something, right?! :-) Plus, I'm pretty sure you could finagle the nickname Tess out of Stella, so you'd sort of get two names for one!

Good luck, and definitely keep me posted!

Sigh......almost EVERY name I've suggested, DH has vetoed! In fact, my best friend said I should just name the baby Veto! LOL!! He told me last night he doesn't like Juliet anymore either. Grrrrr! I seriously did not think he would be so interested in naming this baby. I naively thought that I would say a name and he'd say that's fine. Boy was I wrong!! I also think that since this is my miracle baby and he's had a hand in naming his four daughters from a previous marriage, I should get to name this one, right?!? Ha! Fat chance!! Anyway, I'm glad he's interested, but it is getting frustrating. His favorite is Brynn and that is really growing on me more every day. I just wish I could think of a middle name with some sort of family connection and I think we'd be set!

Thanks for all your help!

I voted for Beyla Jude. It just sounds so delicate. I agree with the "Bananna" comment. Before I even read her reply, I was thinking the same thing. LOL. Keep us posted, you seem to have lots of great name ideas!!! I especially Love the name Jude for a girl!!!

What about Judy for Jude? That way you could use it as a first name. Judy Ann isn't great, but it's not terrible either.

I know it might seem a bit dated, but I have a friend in her 20's with this name and it's very cool on her. So unexpected and not at all 50's -- it really suits her.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, as much as I love the name Jude, Judy just isn't my style! I just can't picture calling a little girl Judy. =o)

Thanks anyway!

I really like your choice, Brynna, but don't care for it with Ann. I think it's too many N's in the name... Also, Mattea is a nice, different-yet-recognizable choice, but I'm not fond of that with Ann either, b/c then the A's blend in together... I don't like Jude as a middle name for a girl... I picked Juliet Ann.

Best of luck!
