Here in Michigan, I know Emma is starting to become popular as well. Still, I only know 2, one is a year old, and the other is not quite a week old! And yes, I bet it started from Friends and has gone on from there!

Also in AZ, and I agree that this is a popular name here. Both Emma and Emily. Last year in my daughter's kindergarten class there were two Emmas and an Emily. Luckily this year just an Emma.

About Dane ...

I can't remember where I read it recently (some article on the most popular baby names last year that also included the fastest rising/up-and-comers, etc.). Anyway, Dane was listed on there, and the reason it gave was the rising popularity of comedian Dane Cook (who cracked me up ever since I was pregnant with my first daughter LOL ... not for everyone's tastes, though, I'm sure. If you happened to see the movie "Waiting," he plays Floyd the cook). Anyway, just thought it might explain some of the little Danes in your area as well. ;)

I'm in PA, and I hear a lot of ...

Girls:
Emma/Emily, Sophia, Natalie (not a ton, but more than I've ever heard before), Madison, Gabrielle/Gabriella

Boys:
JACOB (tons of these running around), Noah, Jonah (not as many as Noahs, but I do hear it often), Mason, Cade(n)

Both:
Riley (various spellings), Taylor, Cameron/Kamryn

I know there are more that I hear all the time, but can't think of them offhand. Oddly enough, everyone in our birthing class 5 years ago seemed to be using the name Olivia for their girls, and I don't remember ever actually meeting one since (we moved about an hour away from that area). Also, although Abigail is in the top 5 for the state of PA, I've yet to run into a little Abigail anywhere around here (never known a single one, actually!). Odd how different things can seem IRL as opposed to on paper. ;)

I think you may be right about Dane Cook helping the popularity of the name Dane. I find him hilarious.....any chance that you saw him host Saturday NIght Live?? He had me and my DH laughing so hard we were afraid we would wake the kids!

Oh good! I'm not the only one!

No, I missed that, but my brother and his fiance saw the whole thing and said it was great(we had gone with them to see him perform live in NJ ... it was hilarious!!!). It's funny how things like that trickle down. I saw his stand-up when I was pregnant with Kaitlyn, taped it the next time it was on and showed Jason (who of course loved it as well ... we're nuts together LOL), bought Harmful if Swallowed when it came out and showed it to all our friends, my brother, etc. ... it's just pretty neat. ;) It's so terrible, but Jason actually got me one of his DVD/CDs for Valentines Day once (probably the one I just mentioned ... I think I got the new one for no reason), and my friend was so appalled. She was like "he got you a comedy DVD? Wouldn't you rather have a nice necklace or some candy?" ROFL. Needless to say, I loved it. ;)

Anyway, enough babbling from me.

Emma is pretty popular in St.Louis. I also forgot to mention Lillian. I love it, but they're showing up everywhere!

Anyway, about the Emma on Friends thing. I don't think that's totally it. My name is Laura, & I'm a Friends addict. Seriously, LOL. Anyway, before Rachel had her baby I told my sister that I thought that Rachel was going to name her baby that, because it seemed to be "the name" of the hour. Therefore, I think it was popular before that!
