To tell you the truth, here in Ontario, Canada, I never hear much of the same name. Ethan being such a popular name my son is the only one at his school of 150 students (yes, small school, but still). In his grade 1 class there aren't any kids that have the same name. It's funny how names are popular in the states but not here. I was just looking at the top 100 names in Canada and Cadence for a girl is 100. Caden for a boy is number 75.
Here are the top names in Ontario.
Girls (from #1-25)
Emily Emma (girl in ds1's class) Madison Sarah (girl at ds2's pre-school) Hannah Sydney Megan Ashley Taylor (girl in ds1's class) Paige Samantha (girl in ds1's class) Olivia (girl in ds1's class and ds2's pre-school) Jessica Hailey Grace Mackenzie (boy in ds1's class) Kaitlyn (my niece) Abigail Isabella Jenna Chloe Alyssa Lauren (my hairdresser's daughter) Julia Brooklyn
Boys
Ethan (my ds1) Joshua (friend's 6 yr old son) Matthew (4 yr old neighbour) Jacob (girl's brother in ds2's pre-school) Ryan Logan (my ds2) Nicholas Tyler (my nephew) Dylan (boy in ds2's pre-school) Connor Daniel Alexander Zachary (boy in ds1's class) William Kyle (boy in ds1's class) Liam Noah Nathan (girl's brother in ds2's pre-school) Benjamin Cole Brandon Austin Michael (boy in ds1's class and ds2's pre-school) Aidan (boy used to be in ds1's class) Justin (boy in ds2's pre-school)
Wyatt! That is another name I should have posted. I thought that was an Arizona thing because of Tombstone and Wyatt Earp, but see it is elsewhere too!
I looked up the top 25 names in Arizona in 2004 on the Social Security Website. I was surprised that Kaitlin wasn't on the list, but if you aggregate the different spellings and add them up, it would be in 15th place. Here are how many kids I know with these names:
Boys: Jose Jacob Anthony (1) Daniel (1) Angel Michael (4) Jesus Joshua (1) David Joseph (1) Luis Ethan Andrew (2) Matthew (1) Christopher Alexander (2) Ryan (3) Jonathan Gabriel Tyler
Girls:
Emily (2) Isabella (1 Isabelle) Emma (3) Ashley (2) Madison (4) Alexis Samantha (1) Abigail Alyssa (2) Elizabeth (1) Hannah Jessica Jennifer Olivia (2) Jasmine (1) Brianna (1) Mia Grace (1) Victoria Hailey (2)
I would say one of the top girl names around here (AL) is Grace. Many people use it for a first name and call her Gracie, but it's also a popular middle name. Three of my closest friends have used it in the past five years, one is Gracie, one is Daisy Grace (Daisy is a family name) and a third named hers Abigail Grace (but she just goes by Abigail).
Like one of the PPs, said two-namers seem to be big here in the south. We are having a girl in May and a couple of the names we're considering are two-namers too. It seems like Mary-something is the biggest in our area.
As for boys, I'm seeing a lot of Ethans and Evans. Jack is popular too, in different versions: Jackson, Jack, and John but they call him Jack. TJ 3ds dd due 6-5
