Sarah or Paisley?

I loved Sarah growing up, but now I am worried it is way too plain. I often do think it is way too plain. I have been hearing Paisley somewhat for the last couple of years..I have met 3-4 of them now. But then I worry Paisley might be too unusual. I already have the middle name so using both is not a possiblity. Besides, I am not going to call them by both so why bother to give both. What do you think?

LOVE Ainsley! I heard it the first time on "The West Wing" and I've loved it since then. Paisley reminds me of a word used to describe someone who is ill. I don't know what that word is, or why Paisley reminds me of it.

I don't really care for Paisley, it's not terrible though. Sounds close to Paige. I think Sarah is a beautiful name, not plain. But, it is very common. I have 3 first cousins named Sarah! Maybe you could spell it Sara, not quite as common. Or something similar like my dd's name, Sabrina. Or, these ideas, Sarina, Sari, Sarita, Saran, Sarana, Saranna, Saralyn, Saralee, Saralia.

I think Sarah is way too plain, too old, too over-used. Paisley is starting to pop up here and there. I know one, but I'm just not particularly crazy for it.

I LOVE Paisley! It's been on my favorites list for over 15 years (no joke). It doesn't go with my last name so I won't be using it. :( Sarah is just SO common. Makes it seem like it's not special at all to me.

Good luck with whatever you choose. :)

Sarah is a beautiful name-timeless, classic & solid. Many cute nn if you want one: Sally, Lolly(not usre why it's a nn, but it is)et al.

I do like slightly "different" names- I've loved Flannery, Bronwyn & Blythe for a long time. but I just don't think Paisley will stand the test of time. It's seems kind of like a hippie love child name from the 70s. When I see it it also makes me think of parsley, palsy & pastey.

If you have loved Sarah don't worry about it's popularity. Like another poster mentioned, it could also effect the names of any other kids you have. What would you name Paisley's little sister or brother? If you aren't planning on other kids then that's not a concern. That is what ultimately led us to our DDs name. As much as I loved Flannery I went with Eleanor(which I LOVE also-it was just a more traditional choice) I just can't see sibs named Paisley & Samantha or Paisley & Joseph, KWIM???

I first heard the name Paisley when I was little, watching re-runs of the TV show "James at 16". He had a girlfriend named Paisley, and I loved it! I said for years I would have a Paisley Anne! Unfortunately, with a last name like mine (it's a noun) , I can't use it! (a Paisley Car!!)

I also like the name Sarah, at the top of our list are the names Sally and Sadie, both are nicknames for Sarah and we have thought about using the name Sarah, and using Sally or Sadie for a nickname.

I think Paisley is too cutesy for an adult.

What about Sisley or Sasley? It sounds like a combination of Sarah and Paisley? I like one poster's suggestion of Sareth too.

Sarah will never be "old" or "plain"! It's been around forever, because it's so beautiful and lasting!! We named our dd Sarah Kellie and even though we'll know a lot of Sarahs or Saras in our lifetime, (my Mom is Sara without the "h"), it sounds beautiful to say, and who doesn't like the meaning? Every time I call my dd's name, I know I'm calling her a princess! Corny? I don't think it is. A poster said something about future sibling names matching in style, and I think they're right. That can be difficult, even when you're using very traditional names.

Paisley sounds pretty phonetically, but immediately I think of that famous pattern. Peyton, on the other hand has the same "feel" (to me), but doesn't remind me of fabric.

Just thought I'd share my opinion...
