Shiloh for a boy--first impressions?

  • western cowboy name
  • nerdy, quiet boy name
  • too feminine for a boy name
  • Unique name
  • I like it!
  • I don't like it!

My first impression is: celebrity copycat.

With a name this unusual, when an uber-celebrity couple (like the Jolie-Pitts) uses it, it's hard to separate it from that connection, especially when it's this recent. Given a couple of years, it the connection will fade a bit.

Without the celeb connection, I'd probably like it okay. It's not a favorite of mine, but I don't dislike it.

I have a female cousin named Shiloh so it's always been a girl name to me.

I liked it for a boy until Angelina used it for a girl.

I can't imagine that name on a person at all.

None of these are my first impressions at all. I think of Shiloh as a Biblical name. And b/c of the spelling, it looks like a boys name to me. It also reminds me of the Neil Diamond song-- but I just looked at the lyrics and it looks like it refers to a female imaginary friend (?).
