I rather like Eavin, but the double "v" thing is too much for me. Morrigan is nms. So I voted for Devanie Amelia. Very nice.

The first pronunciation is right ... like devan with an "ee" sound on the end (it is actually a form of the name Devan).

I hadn't thought about the dEVANie EAVAN correlation ... that may be why I thought it sounded well together lol.

I would certainly consider either spelling (we have talked about it, because we also liked Emily but it is just too popular ... and too many "M" sounds to use as a first name with McCormick). The DAM initials just don't bother us too much (especially since it actually spells the water type of dam, not the curse word). We figure you don't use just your full initials often enough for it to matter. Plus -- and no, we didn't plan on this -- someone else pointed out that if we went with Amelia, all of our middle initials would be "A's" lol. We certainly didn't plan on that, but I did think it was kind of interesting when it was brought to my attention. :)

Incidentally, I really liked Amelia for a first name, but my husband just doesn't (although he doesn't seem to mind it at all for the middle). As far as the "A" names went, he liked Abigail the best by far (and I think the fact that it means "father's joy" only helped it climb the ranks lol).

My dilemma is that I really love both names (but not necessarily how they sound together). I like that Devanie is a bit different and also has the Gaelic sound that goes well with our last name, and I also love the name Abigail and the nickname Abbie (which I think is adorable). I just don't know if Devanie is TOO different or if Abigail is TOO popular, if that makes sense. :) You mentioned you actually have an Abigail ... could you tell me if this problem has presented itself at all (ie., 5 others in her class) or just how popular the name seems to be where you live?

Whichever name we choose, I'll be happy. I really love them both ... it's impossible to choose lol. :)

Thanks so much for your help!

Well, my Abby is 5.5 and just starting kindergarten next week, so I don't know how many will be in school with her, but yes we do know a few other Abigails.

That's so funny you mentioned that. Delanie was the other name on our (original) short list, but my husband grew up with a family with that as a last name and just couldn't see using it as a first name (although he did like the nn Lanie). Plus, since Devanie was so similar (only one letter off) he decided he preferred Devanie, so poor Delanie got weeded out lol. (Incidentally, the meanings I've seen for Delanie include "descendant of the challenger," "from the river" and "angel from heaven," in that order).

You're definitely right about Kaitlyn being popular, too. I've heard it many times in the supermarket, at the park, etc. (although the only other Kaitlyn I know of personally is now in her teens and lives in Indiana lol). I'm sure that will all change once she starts school though (she's only 3 now).

The other problem I'm having is, if we go with Abigail, I'm having trouble finding a middle name I like to go with it (so far it seems Eavan is winning, but we're keeping our options open on that one). With Devanie, I seem to be leaning more towards Amelia (and those who've voted in the poll seem to agree, so I guess it sounds good together lol).

If you can think of any more for Abigail, they're more than welcome. :) I like both classic/traditional names and more current or Gaelic-sounding ones, so you really can't go wrong lol. (Although my husband is a little pickier ... "Rose" was too old-fashioned for him and some of the Irish names were too "different" hehe).

Anyway, thanks for the input! I really appreciate it.
