I voted for Juliana--it's a beautiful name--but if you were going to use the nickname Rory, I would absolutely vote for Lorelei instead. Rory is one of my longtime favorites.

We probably would not use Rory as a nn for Lorelei. I'm already concerned about people associating her name with the "Gilmore Girls" and I think calling her Rory would just push it over the top.

Thanks for the suggestions, though! DH and I are still trying to decide between Juliana and Lorelei. It's a tough decision!

Ooohhh wanted to tell you I found out the other day that on the show her name is spelled Lorelai not Lorelei. I saw that and though of you. DH and I don't get the Rory for a nn at all. Has anyone figured out where Rory comes from in relation to Lorelei. DH and I will not use Rory either. I do know a guy 40+ that is named Rory.

I have always wondered that myself. I have no idea how one gets the nn Rory from Lorelei. Yes, they do spell it differently on the Gilmore Girls. I prefer our traditional spelling, though. ;)

I dont' watch the show, but I'd assume it comes from the way a child might attempt to say Lorelei (Ls sometimes sound like Rs or Ws, so Rore- or Wore- beginnings, KWIM?). Someone who watches might know how they explain it for TV, but that would be my real-life assumption. ;)

My middle name is Michelle, and my brother's is Scott.

I just thought that was a fun coincidence.

That is a neat coincidence. My DH's mn is Scott and my mn is Michelle so that's why we decided to use those. :)

How are you pronouncing Juliana? That makes all the difference to me. I love "jool-ee-ANN-uh" but "jool-ee-ON-uh" isn't my style. I also really love Lorelei, so both are great.

Juliana is pronounced JU-LEE-ON-UH. If it were the other, it'd be spelled Julianna with two n's.

My daughter's name is Juliana. I love her name, but she does get called Julianna a lot or Julie so be prepared to correct people. Now that she is 2 she corrects them on her own. It's a great name!!!
