I agree with going with Grady/Grayson/Graham or event Grant.
William Gray is a nice name, you could call him Will or Liam or Gray. Lots of options.
Gray Scott does sound a bit like Great Scott! But how many times will that be said together...not likely to be an issue.
I like Gray as a nn, but as a first name it just has a dark connotation to me.
Gray skies ahead, etc.
I love Lincoln and especially Gavin -- Gavin Scott is great...
