I say Peyton. Peyton Manning, probably the most famous Peyton of either gender, spells it this way.

This is VERY MUCH my personal opinion, and I don't want to offend
by any means (as my own children have 'different' names somewhat),
but Payton/Peyton for a boy seems very feminine. I understand that
Payton/Peyton (sp?) Manning is a pro-football player, but I still
feel it's more fitting for a girl.

Again, JUST my two cents. Hope you aren't upset.

I think that a "y" in a unisex name can make it look more feminine.

I think there is a tv sitcom that has a teenaged boy character named Paton, pronounced PAY-ton. Paton looks more masculine to me, although I guess there is a risk of it being mispronounced as Patton, as in General Patton.
