For those who don't like "Dorothy" .... is it because

  • I associate it with older people
  • I associate it with cartoons/film characters
  • I just don't like the sound
  • I think it could grow on me if I saw it gaining popularity like Sophie and Max

I couldn't vote in your poll because I love Dorothy! I used to live next to a 3 year old named Dorothy June. She was the spunkiest little girl and totally changed my image of the name. I think it's a great choice. It's unexpected and unusual, but I believe most people will warm up to it.

i love Dorothy, i know a Dorothy my nieces age (20) and she is lovely! just lives up to her name. nothing old, dull about her. with classic names back instyle now, Dorothy will fit right in with Caroline, Eleanor, Emma in her class!! go for it!!!!!!!!

I just said this in another post, but I like Dorothy a lot. And although some people will think it an unusual choice for a baby, it actually fits right in with the current old-fashioned names trend (Emma, Charlotte, Caroline, Abigail, Eleanor, etc.).

I voted that I think it could grow on me. I associate it with The Wizard of Oz and with old people, but like others have said, old people names are coming back in style.

I think it would work with a cute nn like Dory. Or are you the one who was thinking about using Rory? That's cute too.

Don't be scared of Dorothy! One of the charming things about is that it's a great, old-fashioned name that is in no way popular. It is definitely on my list, and I am frankly relieved that most don't seem to like it. It's great, and it grows on you. If you like it, go for it. It's charming because it's retro, and I think you are the one I talked with about this a few days ago, it has family meaning. It does for me. One of the greatest ladies I've ever known was named Dorothy (my great aunt).

Two other great names: Ruth and Susan.

I really sort of like the name. Plus you could call her Dottie or Dot, which is cute.
Funny story, when I was a little girl, I had a cabbage patch doll named Isabelle. I hated the name, so I changed it to Dorothy! LOL!
