Truth about Olivia- what do you think? Still use it?
- It is played out and too popular to use
- It is lovely and classic- I'd still use it
- I'd use it if no one in my circle had used it
- I'd use it if she went by Liv or Livi most of the time
- Other (please comment to specify)

I know it's a popular name but there don't seem to be very many Olivia's where I live.
I voted other because of my personal experience with the name. We chose Olivia for our second child who ended up being a boy. For our third we had a dd but ended up choosing Mattea which I loved even more. For fourth child, still in love with both Olivia and Livia. Debated for months and months, by this time several people we knew had Olivia's but none were close friends. Finally when nothing else was sticking we chose to go with Livia. Sent the announcements, called her nn. Friend called and asked how Livia was doing? I honestly thought she was talking about a mutual friends dd not mine. In my mind it was too strongly assiciated with another person's child. (probably because we did call her a nn: Lily, why, a really long story) Ended up changing her name to something that we didn't associate as stongly with others. She and my dh love her name so worked out fine.
All this is to say if you love it, use it if it won't bother you that there are many others out there. In the last 14 years thousands of little girls have been named Olivia so you are likely to know another along the way. Maybe because I'm a Kimberly I didn't want that for my dd. On the other hand if my dh agreed to the name Jack I'd use it in a heartbeat as that is my grandfather's name. Wouldn't bother me that there are others. No wonder i'm confused. :)

Thanks for your perspective! I LOVE Mattea btw, but DH vetoed it unfortunately.
We are considering Olivia mostly b/c of the name Liv. We love Liv, especially DH, but it is less common as a name on its own. It is a Scandanavian name on its own besides as a nn for Olivia/Livia, but we aren't sure if we want to do that.
I do not know any Olivia's personally yet, but lots of my friends are PG right now so I will wait and see if any of them use it.
Thanks again.
Thanks belle_petite for the siggy!
