Unusual Request. Which name for my "baby" (my 9 wk old Westie puppy)!

  • Genevieve Rose
  • Genevieve Dawn (this MN was her mom's mn)
  • Genevieve Rogue
  • Her characteristics are sweet, mischievious, and feisty.

  • I know this is an unusual request, but she needs a MN for her AKC papers!

I have a cat that we had named Guinevere, but after calling her that for two days, it just did not suit her at all. I picture Guinevere as a very regal name, and she was a little clumsy fluffball. So we renamed her Tuesday, and added Guinevere as her mn. Now she is a very regal adult kitty and Guinevere would suit her fine, but we are all used to calling her Tuesday. We would have named our first child (pre-kitty, lol) Guinevere or Genevieve if he had been a girl, so I love both those names :)

We call Genevieve "Gennie" or "Gen". She's so precious but she's got attitude. I think maybe it's because she was a singleton pup and didn't have any litter mates.

Thanks for the help! I know this is kind of an unusual request, but she's the only baby I've got for now. :)

I never knew dogs could have middle names. I chose Genevieve Dawn to honor her mum. Is she a performing dog or a show dog or something like that or just a family dog? Just interested, Good luck!!

I wasn't really familiar with the idea of giving a dog more than one name either until we got her. When you register them with the AKC, they encourage you to come up with a unique name, which is why many people give them more than just a first name. Currently, there are six other Westies just named Genevieve, so if I register her just as Genevieve, she'll be called Genevieve VII.

When ever we've registered dogs with the AKC we've used the kennel name, the bitch's (mother's) name or the sire's (father's name) in the formal name. So I'd go with Dawn in your case. If you want something a little different how about Blanche which means "white" in French. I think that would very appropriate for a westie.

We're not planning on showing her - she's just a family companion. I didn't want her to be known as Genevieve VII, though. There's something very impersonal about those roman numerals at the end of her name. :)
