I voted Marissa Nikole Parker
but actually my first choice is
Marissa Elisabeth Parker
I prefer the flow of the uneven syllables

Oh please, not another Madison!! UGH! The name is so trendy and overdone!

Marissa and Lila (spelt this way) are nice. Lyla looks misspelled and the random "y" gives it a trendy look. Lila is much classier. You could also consider Isla "eye-luh" or Aila "ay-luh". I think Nikole is a pretty filler mn, not to mention outdated, misspelled (NiCole) and boring- and that is coming from someone whose name is Nicole!!! I'd avoid it. Are any of the mn's family names, or just random names? None of them really jump out at me as something special.

In terms of first names though, Marissa or Lila, NOT Lyla or Madison.

I think Marissa is very pretty and sounds lovely with your ln. I do prefer the spelling of Nicole this way, though. Nikole just looks a little odd to me. Is there a particular reason you decided to go with the "K" spelling versus the "C" (family tradition, etc.)?

My middle name is Nikole, spelled that way. Thats the only reason why. I could do Nicole, I actually threw Nikole in there at the last minute because we hadnt really decided on the middle name for Marissa and I thought that sounded good.

As far as Lyla goes, I thought about using the i, but I wrote the boys and girls names down and had people rate their favorites and people were pronouncing lila as leela, not sure why, but when I changed it to lyla, i didnt have that problem.

I know Madison is popular but for some reason I really love the name. We were thinking about Madison with our first daughter but ended up going with Alexandra but I still really liked Madison.

Thanks so much for everyones input though, it really helps me look at things a different way.

And as far as the three first names go, they all go well with Alexandra and/or Allie right?

Thanks!

Alexandra is gorgeous; a nice classic. To be honest, none of the names on your list go AT ALL stylistically, except Lila, but only spelt properly. Madison is way too trendy with the classy Alexandra, although Madeline would go nicely! Marissa is cute enough, but not classy. Lila is great, but Lyla is misspelled and just doesn't look right. Some names I like with Alexandra (possible nn's listed as well):

Cecelia - CeeCee, Celia,Lia

Celia- Lia

Elizabeth- Libby, Beth

Hannah

Natalie- Nat

Marina- Rina,Mimi

Cordelia- Delia, Dee, Cora

Theresa- Tessa

Tabitha- Tabby

Amelia- Mia, Lia

Eloise- Ellie, Lulu

Matilda- Mattie, Tilly, Millie

Sophia- Sophie

Clara

I wasnt expecting any of the names to end up tied. I thought your votes would pick the best one!! Keep the votes coming, I need some tie breakers!

If it helps, my vote went to Lyla by default. I did read your reasoning behind this spelling, but I think Lilah with the H on the end might solve the pronunciation problem. I have heard Lila pronounced both ways, but I've only heard Lilah said with the long "i" sound. Just a thought. ;)

Of the other choices, Marissa seems a bit dated to me (very 1980s, though it seems to have peaked just over a decade ago), and Madison is well on it's way to becoming so.

Madison has the misfortune of being extremely popular and part of a huge trend (-son names and other masculine names for girls) without the advantage of also being classic, so it will seem extremely dated in a very short time, if that makes sense. Something like Madeleine, Madeline, Magdala, Magdalene, Matilda, etc., all of which can yield the nns Maddy/Matty, aren't nearly as trendy and won't have that same dated feel, if you KWIM.

HTH ;)

Yes, my vote also went to Lyla by default. I didn't want to vote for a misspelled name, but given the other options, it was still the best choice. I think you would find that if you'd spelled Lila properly, it would have won by an overwhelming margin. My guess is that people voted for Marissa because a properly spelled mediocre name is still better than a name that would ordinarily be considered classic and elegant, but is misspelled. And like Kelli said, Lilah would probably solve your pronunciation problem (although I cannot understand why anyone would pronounce Lila as Leela...mystery).

I agree totally with the PP in reasoning to why people voted for Marissa: "people voted for Marissa because a properly spelled mediocre name is still better than a name that would ordinarily be considered classic and elegant, but is misspelled." That is why it got my vote!

I voted for Marissa Nikole - but I don't like that spelling - Nicole would be better

as for Madison - why would want to - they are EVERYWHERE - I know Emma and Emily keep topping the SSA chart, but I know FAR more Madison's between 1 and 12 years old than Emma's and Emily's combined in that age group

I know Lyla seems to hit the board a lot - I just see it as sooooooo old-sounding

I LOVE the name Marissa

good luck
