It's my mom's first name and my middle name so I can't say I don't like it, but I wouldn't use it as a first name, I prefer it as a middle name.

Joy is my older DD's mn, and that was chosen to honor DH's favorite aunt who never had kids of her own. Aunt Joy truly is a joy -- fun-loving, friendly, sweet, great sense of humor. She definitely lives up to her name.

I also know another adult Joy who has a very upbeat, optimistic personality, so I feel the name fits her as well. There's a 4-year-old Joy at DD's preschool, and while I don't know her, she always looks very happy -- just like you'd expect a Joy to look. :-)

I think Joy is nice as first name, but better as a mn only b/c I'd hate for the child to not really live up to the name if that makes sense.

I voted that I prefer it for a mn (although it's very much a filler in that position, at least in my area -- PA -- and where my dh's family lives in IL). There's nothing wrong with the name itself -- my sister is Dara Joy and she loves her name -- but it tends to become ironic as a fn, in my experience. I don't know if it's the people rebelling against the name or what, but every Joy I've known has been anything but joyous. ;)

I love love love it! Don't see it a lot as a first name, but quite frequently as a middle name. First-runner-up in the name game for my little one was Bethany Joy.
