my sister's name is Lydia Beverly (Beverly was our Dad's Mom's name). we all call her lyd or liddy and somewhere along the way she got the nn liggy. her name works and matches her well.
I love it. My mom's aunt is named Lydia -- and the name fits a girl throughout her life, whether she's 4 or 80. Great-aunt Lydia is wonderful -- smart, spunky, independant. Did I mention FUNNY?! :) If I could convince my DH, I would love to name a daughter Lydia. AND she can have the nn "Lyd" -- much like the popular "Syd" for Sydney, but with a twist! :)
I don't like this name, even though it seems like as should as I generally like names of this style. I think that silly Lydia Bennet in Pride and Prejudice ruined it for me forever. It just evokes an image of a foolish girl with no sense at all.
