I LOVE Margo(t)! This was absolutely my #1 choice for a girl...until I admitted to myself that it sounds awful with my last name. Margot is a terrific choice: chic without being trendy, familiar without being at all common, unique without being weird. It gets a big 'thumbs up' from me.
I love it, but, as others have said, definitely think it needs the T. Margot looks much more substantial, sophisticated and elegant, and also acknowledges the etymological relationship to Margaret. That said, Margo is acceptable and infinitely better than, say, Margaux, or any other nonsense spellings.
Margot/Margo is one of those great names that isn't even top 1000.
Others:
Beatrix
Cecile/Cecily
