Is it clearly a boys name?
Is is a snobbish name or trashy name or a classic name?
Do you know anyone by that name?
What do you think of the name?
and what kind of person do you think of when you hear the name Preston?

I am having a boy and I used to live in Preston, Idaho. I am not sure I will pick this name, just one of my top choices. TIA

Is it clearly a boys name?
**Yes, it is clearly a boy's name.

Is is a snobbish name or trashy name or a classic name?
**I wouldn't call it trashy but I wouldn't call it classic either. I used to think it was a little snobbish, but since it's become more popular, I don't think it has that connotation anymore.

Do you know anyone by that name?
**Yes, a friend of mine named her son Preston, he's about 4 or 5 now.

What do you think of the name?
**It makes me think of what I heard someone on the radio say when there was news that Britney Spears was thinking of naming her child Preston. They said Preston is what trashy people name their child when they are trying to give them a not trashy name. I don't know if I would go that far, but to me, its just okay. I guess I just think that its a name that a child would have to grow into.

and what kind of person do you think of when you hear the name Preston?
**Well, the boy that I know named Preston is a sweet and smart little boy born to upper class parents, so that's what immediately comes to mind.

I don't like it. It reminds me of a snobby/wimpy private school kid's name. Not that there's anything wrong with private schools b/c I teach at one. But, that's what it reminds me of and I just don't like it. I think it sounds wimpy.

I absolutley LOVE the name Preston. In fact, that is one of my top 3 choices for boys' names: Preston Andrew! Not snobbish, but classic, not wierd and has a meaning and history. Preston is English, means priestly. Go for it!

The reports are Britney Spears/Federwhatever is naming her son Preston Michael. Personally, I wouldn't go near it with a ten-foot barge pole, but that's my bias. The -ton ending is rather nice, though. What about Weston (rhymes, nn Wes...I kinda like that), Dalton, Benton (ben), Wilton (will), Colton (cole), Keaton or Linton instead (to find others, search baby name sites by meaning, using the key word 'town')

The only Preston I can think of is the one from the movie Can't Hardly Wait, so I will always think of Ethan Embry when I hear this name. ("Pres-STONE!")
