WDYT of these names?
| Thu, 03-15-2007 - 8:56pm |
These are currently my favorite girl and boy names. What ones do you like the best? My front runners are Audrey, Anna, and Connor James. Thanks!
Audrey (mn would be Anna or Colleen)
Audrianna (I love Audrey and Anna so I thought this was nice)
Anna (mn maybe Colleen or Audrey)
Audrea/Audria
Aubrey
Amelia (nn Emmy or Mia)
Bridget
Clara
Julianna
Colette (love this name, but DH isn't a fan)
Kara/Cara (pronounced Car-ra)
Jillian
Connor James
Evan James
Benjamin James
Leo James
Nathan James
Seth James

I like Audrey Colleen or Evan James.
Connor is NMS, and I've just heard it or its ilk so many times I'm kind of tired of it. Teh rest of your list are all nice names (the boys and girls, I just liked those combos the best I thought they flowed well.
Steph
Audrey (mn would be Anna or Colleen) -- Love it! Neither of the mns have the best flow, but if they have special meaning I'd overlook the repeating As and go with Audrey Anna, I think.
Audrianna (I love Audrey and Anna so I thought this was nice) -- I'm sorry, that just doesn't even look like a name. If you like Audrey Anna, you can call her by both her first and mn, but I definitely wouldn't try to smush them together to create one name. You may like Adriana (ah-dree-AHN-ah) as an alternative, however.
Anna (mn maybe Colleen or Audrey) -- Anna is a sweet, simple classic. I'd definitely go with Anna Colleen over Anna Audrey here ... it's just really hard to follow up the ending "a" sound of Anna with the beginning "aw" sound of Audrey. Basically comes out sounding like a slurred "Annaudrey."
Audrea/Audria -- I know Audrea can be a variation of Audrey, but it honestly looks like a typo of Andrea or Audra (or, really, both, slammed together), either of which I'd prefer. I actually love Audra, and with Audrey and the other created/variant forms here I'm surprised it's not on the list.
Aubrey -- really dislike this. It's basically the "poor man's Audrey" ... very similar sound without being classic or feminine in the least.
Amelia (nn Emmy or Mia) -- Love Amelia, though the Emmy and Mia nns seem a bit overdone at the moment (especially Emmy, what with all the little Emilys and Emmas running around). You may also like Mila or Millie as nns. Just a thought. ;)
Bridget -- Love it. Quite refreshing at the moment. Everyone's familiar with it, and yet it's not even in the top 300. Very nice.
Clara -- Wonderful! Also not overly-popular (around the 250s), which is great.
Julianna -- eh. I've been seeing this a lot lately, so it must be regional (and possibly part of the J-names trend), but to me this is really dated. I know so many between 10 and 20, it seems a trend that should be dying out by now. I do like the classic Julia, but it's a bit popular.
Colette (love this name, but DH isn't a fan) -- if dh isn't a fan, I'm afraid it's probably out. ;) I was never into the Nicole/Nicholas names, to be honest, having grown up with literally dozens of them, though I do like the nn Nico and stand-alone name Cole (which some use as a shortened form of Nicholas).
Kara/Cara (pronounced Car-ra) -- with so many others to choose from, I'd probably avoid the K trend if I were you. If you really like the sound of Cara, however, you might use something less common/trendy, like Carys.
Jillian -- not my favorite in general, but nothing wrong with it.
Connor James -- if popularity isn't a concern (Connor is in the top 50, and James in the top 20, so this combo as a whole is rather common), this is still a nice name. I do applaud you for spelling it correctly. ;) ConnER gets so old. LOL
Evan James -- same comments as above, only Evan's a bit more popular even. I'm assuming James has some significance to you, since it's listed with every name here? ;) If so, it's fine, but if you just thought it sounded "nice," be warned that half the country agrees with you. It's pretty much the definition of a filler mn.
Benjamin James -- ok, so you LIKE popular. ;) That's fine. Benjamin is nice, but it's not one I would pair with James. The -jamin/James sounds are really repetitive.
Leo James -- ooh. I like Leo. I'd prefer it as a nn, if nothing else just to give him more options as he ages, but that's just me.
Nathan James -- the most popular of the bunch. I'd avoid pairing two top 20 names like this. MAYBE if you went with Nathaniel James as the given name ... it's not quite as common.
Seth James -- I like Seth, but not with James. I don't like two single-syllable names together to begin with, but for some reason I'm having trouble saying the J sound immediately following the "th" anyway, so even if you changed it to Seth Jameson (assuming James is for your dh or other relative), it still might be a bit of a lispy combo.

Audrey - A lovely classic, very strong. Love it
Audrianna - Like it a lot, but do prefer Audrey
Anna - Don't like the flow of Anna Audrey, but ADORE Anna. So sweet, very similar in style to Audrey I find- strong and classic
Audrea/Audria- Sounds like you're trying too hard
Aubrey- Not nearly as nice as Audrey, has a more trendy feel
Amelia - Adorable
Bridget - Great name, very strong.
Clara- Adorable.
Julianna - Love this one, the nn's Annie and Jules are both sweet
Colette - Seems outdated to me
Kara/Cara- I think you will get pronunciation issues... not a huge fan
Jillian- Cute, but a bit heavy sounding
Connor James- Connor is so common, hear it all the time
Evan James- Boring
Benjamin James- A bit "j" heavy as a combo, very common as well
Leo James- LOVE this. Leo is so spunky!
Nathan James- Nice
Seth James- ADORE it, very strong.
I LOVE your girl's list, and really liek Leo and Seth from your boy's lists, although the rest are pretty common. Great names! My favourites are:
Audrey Anna

HTH,
-Nikki
Audrey - love Audrey, prefer Audrey Colleen as the combo
Audrianna - I like this better than Audrey Anna; Audrianna Colleen would work
Anna - like this a lot
Audrea/Audria - nms; it looks more like Andrea
Aubrey - okay but Audrey's much better IMO
Amelia - like it but it seems
We have similiar taste....I love Anna and Audrey. I would of named my daughter Anna if it flowed with my last name, but it didn't work.
They are my favorite girl names.
-I also had Cara/Kara on my girl list.

My son's name is Connor James. He is almost 2. I really have not encountered many boys named Connor in my area. I know it is in the top 50, but I rarely hear it. I think it depends on where you live. I dont feel it is over used in my area, so I am very happy with it.
I also had Evan and Nathan on my boy list. I love those names too.
i like:
Amelia
Bridget
Julianna
Cara
Jillian
Connor James
Benjamin James
Nathan James
I like Leo but not with James.
