Hi. I wasn't sure how to put a message in a poll, but here is some background. My DH and I have one daughter Olivia Noel and I was pretty much the one who named her. We do not yet know the gender of this baby. I am 26wks, so it is doubtful that we will find out, so we want to have both boy and girl names chosen.
Since I named Olivia, my DH gets to pick the FN's for this baby. We have both decided on using a Welsh MN to honor my deceased grandfather's heritage, as well as my family heritage. My husband is definite in using Alexander with the NN of either Lex or Xander.
Here are his top choices for a Welsh MN to go with it. We are both leaning towards Cadfael, but wondered if it weren't too "out there." I know we have more leeway with a MN, so would it matter that it is different?
I appreciate your votes.
Sorry, I should have added some pronunciations.
Cadfael= Cad-FA-el (like add with a hard C before it-faye- elle)
Drystan= Dris-tan
Gareth= Gare (like glare without the l)-eth.
Taliesin= Tal-ee-ES-in (Tal as in tally, ee as in beet, S, in)
I am not good at pronunciation guides, so I hope this gives some idea of the way they are said. You may have heard Cadfael from the British series of Brother Cadfael mysteries based on Elizabeth Ellis' books.
"Brother Cadfael" is one of my brother's favorites. I think it would be kind of neat to use that as his middle name.
However I voted for Taliesin. I have liked it for a long time, but my husband isn't so into it. I also like the meaning for Alexander Taliesin, "helper of humanity" "shining brow". So bright humanitarian, basically. I think it's nice (though I also like Alexander Cadfael).
Hope that helps.
