What about the name Tucker?

My husband and I both really like the name Tucker. However, I am a lot more concerned than my husband about the name because of that awful cuss word beginning with the letter F that it rhymes with. Am I overreacting or should we nix the name because of the rhyming factor?

Sorry to break the trend, but I remember being a young 6th grader on the school bus with 3 brothers with the last name Tucker... needless to say, they got teased about it all the time. Kids are cruel and have a lot of time on their hands.

But, I really like the name, nonetheless. It reminds me of the kids book Tuck Everlasting.

I would hope that by the time kids learn that awful word, they'd be too old to make fun of each other's names...maybe I'm just trying to be optimistic. Anyway, I think it's a great name, and I think you should use it!

I LOVE the name Tucker, but when I have run it past people not a single one didn't say something to the effect of, "You mean like FU@&#R?"
I personally would not put my child in a position for being called "mother-tucker" or worse. Obviously, many names have potential for teasing or being associated with something. I honestly didn't think of "Simon Says" when naming our son (but since it is not a bad word, it wouldn't have deterred me, FWIW) but that first time they played it at story time he was 3 and just broke down in tears. I think that peers and rude adults would bring-up this connection. Sad, because it is just so cute!

I always wanted to name a boy Tucker, but changed my mind when I thought more about it because of the F word

maybe you could use it as a middle name

Oh, he will be teased unmercilously when he's in late elementary school and early middle school with "Tucker" for exactly the reason you point out. Don't do it!

I wouldn't discount the problem of the cuss word. My husband was supposed to be called Tucker, but his last name is Hitch, so they would have put together 2 naughty words! His parents went with Tyler.
Good luck,

I think the f-word is inevitable at some point, most likely among teenage boys. Still- it's a strong, appealing name.

Perhaps you could warm to Trevor, Tanner, Truman, Tobin or the real winner in my book- Turner.

Other Tucker-type names- Sawyer, Hudson, Parker, Fisher, Walker, Cooper, Carson, Weston, Maverick, Dalton, Lander, Hunter, Fletcher, Foster, Hartley, Palmer, Corbin, Wyatt

Lots of luck, Ginger
