Hi, I'm new to this website. I'm 22, I have a 2 year old daughter (Kaytlynn) and I'm expecting again FINALLY!

I just wanted to ask what you thought of this name?

* Haely Cathlene *

My best friend's name is Leah and if you noticed, the name 'Leah' is spelled backwards in the name Haely. I created a poll to see what spelling you all preferred so please check that out as well. The middle name is spelled how it is because my mother's name is Catherine, with a "C".

What do you think? Please let me know your opinions. Thanks!

Honestly, I think this spelling is not a good idea. It just looks bad...and I personaly don't think it's cute at all to spell someone else's name backwards inside another name...that's just silly. If you want to name your daughter after your fiend, then name her Leah. Otherwise, name her Hailey or some other reasonable spelling of the name. While it may be fun for you to play around with the spelling of her name, it won't be fun for her to have to deal with that silly, misspelled name for the rest of her life. But that's just my opinion! Good luck!

I understand why you might want to do this, but (without intending to sound cruel) it really does make the name look very contrived and made-up ... not to mention IMPOSSIBLE to recognize as Hailey/Hayley. To be honest, I'd probably prefer Hayleah or something similar to this (and I have known a few with the name Leah pronounced Lee, so that's not so much of a stretch). You may get a few people who try to pronounce it Hayley-ah, but I still think it's much more recognizable as a name than any of the others in your poll. Besides that, if you want to honor someone by using their name, I'd probably just use the actual name or at least find a name that uses the letters in order, rather than backwards (think Nevaeh here). Too much of a puzzler, if you KWIM.

If you want to make up a name with "Leah" in it, put the "-leah" at the end or else it's going to look very weird.

Maleah
Aleah
Ashleah
Amaleah
Nataleah
Rosaleah
Galeah
Kayleah
Cleah
Cecileah

Actually, just go to a website that lets you search by "names ending in..." and type in "lia" for a list of names you can change to "leah" endings if it pleases you.

Something like that.

Or start the name with "Lea-" or "Le-"

Leandra
Leana
Leann

or

Leora
Lelah
Lenore

Putting "Leah" backward in the name is just kind of scary. If I had a friend who honored me like that (I'm Kate, so Etakerina? Ha!) I'd just be freaked out. And the kid would have to remember me every time she *hated her name* for the rest of time.

And Cathleen isn't bad, but Cathlene is just bizarre. Why go the extra step and misspell the rest of the name after you've already changed the first letter?

------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: Stop the presses!!! So, er, I was just watching a movie and the credits rolled and I got a little stroke of inspiration for you. Has it occurred to you that Leah *does* appear spelled backward in the names Michael and Raphael and... Rachael!

Michaela (which, I'm sure you're aware, is correct spelling of the super-hip McKayla)
Raphaela (dignified, not made up, very pretty...)
Rachael (what more you could you ask for? It's a classic if ever there was one... *and* it has "leah" in it backward, just like you wanted... *and* it's not misspelled... and it's an excellent name!)

So yeah! I'm excited that I thought of those :)

Just noticed a pp gave some suggestions for other names that actually have -hael endings and thought I'd add Richael (I'm not sure if there's a definite meaning, although I have heard it given as "royal child," but it is the name of an Irish saint, so might suite your taste for names like Kaitlyn, Hailey, etc. ... similar style/feel, if you KWIM?). It's pronounced similarly to Rachael, but sounding a bit closer to "reech-hill" if that makes sense. HTH! :)

I'm not one for weird spelllings. Hailey Cathleen would be beautiful. Haely Cathlene is not my style.

I didn't see this post until after I'd already replied to your poll. I think it is nice that you are honoring your best friend. While I am not fond of the Hael-begining, I can certainly understand the sentiment. In that case, I vote for Haeley. :)
