I like it for a boy. I hate it for a girl (in general I strongly dislike using boys' names for girls).

I think that it definitely needs the other L and I think that the nickname Ellie is overdone. And my DH, who happens to be sitting here right now, says that if you name a girl Elliot, she better be cute.

I dislike Elliot for a boy, so I really don't like it for a girl! Sorry

Ditto what Annie said except I think Elliot is a boys name.

I love it. Eliot is one of those boys names I would never consider using for a boy. I think it sounds very sweetly feminine (especially with the nn Ellie). As for the spelling, stick with Eliot. I associate it with author George Eliot, who I feel gives the name a feminine precedent.

I usually agree with Annie about everything, but not about this one. Sorry, Annie! :-) I love the name Eliot for a little girl (though, like Annie, I probably wouldn't call her Ellie). I love the Eliot spelling because, as an English major, T.S. Eliot is one of my favorites. I have fantasized about having baby girls named Eliot and Emerson (as in Ralph Waldo) but then my love for frilly names takes over, and I go back to Rosalie and Cordelia. But, I still have a soft spot for little girls named Eliot.
