Middle names don't come into play much, so focusing on Donovan McCabe, I would have to say that unless Donovan is a family name, it's a little over the top for me. I'm not a big fan of the Irish-last-name-as-first-name-just-because-I-like-the-sound trend.

I like Donovan probably because I know a lovely boy called Donny. I like versitile names that can change as your child grows - Donny for when he is younger, Don when he wants to be informal and Donovan when he goes for a job interview!!

I really like Donocan McCabe. It might sound even better with a different mn that doesn't end with the same sound Donovan ends in. Also, I don't really like Owen very much.

Yeah, I don't really like Owen, either, but my husband loves it.

I didn't think there was really a choice that indicated what I think

I like Donovan a lot - I don't like Owen at all, but aside from the fact that I don't like Owen, - even if I did like Owen, I wouldn't think it's a good combination

they end too much alike - and the whole thing is too O-heavy together

my suggestion is keep the Donovan, find a different middle name

good luck

Your Mellow Yellow refernce made me chuckle!

I think the name sounds fine. NOt overly used and not too way out there. Good choice!

I agree. I love Donovan (also a Mc- here, so we've considered this one lol), but Donovan Owen kind of sounds repetitive (the -ovan Owen part is a little too similar I think). I think you said your husband picked the mn, so you may not have a choice there ... and I know what you're going through because every boy name we pick seems to end in the -an sound, so you can't really combine two for a fn and mn. Anyway, middle names don't come into play too much once the child is older, so if your husband insists I wouldn't worry about it. The first name and last name will sound lovely together. :)
