I think I really like it too!!! Now if I can get DH to agree we may have a deal :) How would you pronounce Alana? Alannah? I know how I would say it, but I am not always right when it comes to names :)

Leslie ;)

nothing against the name per se, but i know an alana and she ruined the name. bad association for me, but don't let that hold you back. I'm sure if i didn't know "that alana" i would like the name:) good luck and congrats!

Alannah is a-LANN-a (like the name "Ann" in the middle syllable). You can actually hear it pronounced and read more about it here: http://www.babynamesofireland.com/pages/girl-names-a-c.html

Alana technically is as well, but with the -ana spelling many will assume an a-lah-na pronunciation (which makes sense, of course, and I do view that as a valid pronunciation). I believe that's how the little girl on Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader spells and says her name, as well, so that may give some a point of reference with that form.

I personally prefer the Alannah spelling/pronunciation/meaning (more literally related to a leanbh than Alana/a-lah-na would be), but both are nice. ;)

I like it a lot, but prefer the spelling Alannah.

I think it falls into a gray area as far as pronunciation. I've mostly heard it as a-LAH-na, but know other people pronounce it differently.

I also like the name Elena/Helena (mentioned by another poster), but the ones that I have known with the name do not pronounce it like Alannah, but as eh-LAY-na or el-LAY-na (bear with me here, I'm terrible at phonetic spelling).
