I said no, b/c when I hear the name I automatically think of one of the characters on the show The Nanny, and I think he's kind of sissy-ish. It's hard for me to get that association out of my head. If I saw other men with this name, from all different walks of life, it might grow on me. I don't particularly care for it as a girls name either.
I'm going to be the odd one out and say I quite like it. The only person I have ever heard it on was a character on the TV show Everwood, who is called "Bright" most of the time, and who I generally liked. I'd even consider using it, because I love the image of light and sun that comes with it. But the nickname "Bright" is my only reservation - what if he's NOT (very bright, that is)? I'd be afraid of teasing. I still like it though.
Thank you! I LOVE this name! I orginaly wanted the name to just be Bright. My husband and family liked it but they all felt that Bright should be short for something. One day my husband came home and said he liked Brighton. I totaly loved it and it went well with the middle names I wanted to use. So it'd be Brighton Jo Anne, MNs' for my mother and Grandmother.
I know you were the first! and then I got the 2nd message and decided to write you! Thanks for the Advice on taking advice on the message boards. I get a little too sensitive theese days! LOL Also, I am very prone to unusual names. My name is Jessica and I grew up in a small town and went all through school with 7 other Jessica's in my grade. Can you imagine being 1 of 8 in the same classroom for 12 years!!!!! So I want something special. I have 5 girlfriends pregnant right now, all with girls, and they are all gonna be Madisons, Avas, and Abbygails. Seriously, 5 moms 3 names between them. I want a name that people know who my daughter is, instead of asking which one? I realy think that Brighton is "the" name. I just cant get away from it, I play with other names and keep going right back to it. Thanks again for the Advice. TTYL
Wasn't Bright a boy on Everwood? It's been a while since I watched, but that's what's coming to mind.
FWIW, it doesn't resonate for me on either a boy or a girl. It just seems to be riding that place/surname trend and becomes part of a crowd that way rather than standing out...
