What do you think of the name Rory/Ruari (same pronuniciation) for a girl? (Gilmore Girls excluded)

Do you mean this as a name for a girl or for a boy? I have heard it on both genders, as a full name and as a nn (Gregory, Theodore, Lorelei, etc.) I voted Love It because I really do love it on both genders.

I voted like it, esp. as a nn for Aurora. I have a family member who has trouble pronouncing R's, so it would sound like "Wory." That's why I can't love it. lol

I like it as a nickname for either sex, but not as a full name, especially not for a girl.

Definitely not as a given name, but assuming you mean nn I actually do like this for either gender. Even though it has a masculine feel, it still seems to work to kind of balance out a very feminine name like Aurora or Lorelei (I've heard it used for both ).

I'd stick to the Rory spelling if it's for a girl, btw, since that form is often considered to come simply from ruadh (so meaning red or redhead), while the -ri forms (namely Ruaidhri, Ruadhri and Ruari) come from ruadh + ri, literally meaning red king, and are strictly masculine.

HTH ;)

Years and years ago I read a book where one of the siblings was named Rory (I think it was a boy but am not sure). I thought that is a name I would like to name a child. When I got pregnant with my first child I thought about Rory again. Then I said it aloud a few time and decided it was kind of a tongue twister and didn't use it. I still like the name and think it would go well for a girl.
